I used to stay here for spring break excursions in college, that was a few years ago now. It was cheap and nice back in the early 90's. May be worth a look....not too far from the race site.

I can remember camping there back in college days, trouble was I felt like I had become part of the food chain (skeeters) and the coons stole everything that was not tied down.

Last month I stopped in to the lobby of every nearby motel in Islamorada. Here's my favorites (friendly and helpful front desk and decent prices):

I'm pretty sure Islamorada Motel has been out of business for at least 2 years.

guess I should cancel my reservation then? Some guy named "Bob" said I could just send my bank info and he'd "Take care of everything"

Sounds like a really nice guy... He had a bridge for sale somewhere, too.
