Crap.

Well, theres always next year. A bit late at this point to whip up crew/plans/etc.

I guess the next big race is the Space Coast 45?

Come on out anyway and bring the boat, I have a feeling there might be some consolidation going on tomorrow. Based on the forecast it looks like a H16 will be the weapon of choice.

March 17 is the SC 45.

So I've finally thawed and my SWIBS disappeared thankfully. Since the 20 wasn't in any state of cleanliness to be taken in front of people I know, I showed up and thankfully Steve Carron needed crew on his H16. With the breeze building past 20 our of the west, he seemed excited to enlist all 270 pounds of my manly corpus. It paid off as you'll see the top speed registered on my GPS. Some of the gusts coming back down the river were well past 25 and it looked like someone had openned a fire hydrant off the back of Steve's H16. A lot of fun. I also managed to snap a few pics of JC's new Cirrus R F18 if you haven't see it yet. The deck topsides are really slick.

Not a big turn out this year. Nasty weather?

Re: Is Hagar this weekend? - 02/13/12 03:26 PM

it was blowing a solid 20 with gusts higher in the middle of the channel. The temperature was also pretty chilly for Central Florida. I know my climbatized butt was pretty chilly by the end of the race.

Dave, did you hear about whether the recovery operation was successful?

Also, when we were still heading up to the "top" mark and the F boats had already gone around and were coming back - I saw JC and Karl coming back at us like a screaming banshee. I don't think I've ever seen a boat go as fast as I did then. It was absolutely stunning how fast that thing was going up on a plane.

We had a GoPro on board but it suffered water intrusion during that run and so the quality of the video suffered but viewing it you can just see how bloody fast the were going. It was truly insane.

Dave appears to have been behind him by slightly more than a minute overall on his C2...I'm sure he was stunningly fast on plane as well!

I think we're getting close to making trade-offs in the big bottom girl boat design. The designs are sneaking up on becoming monohulls with ever increasing stern flatness and girth. McDonald's syndrome.

Great run, you don't get to sail in breeze like we had on Saturday very often.

Rescue went without a hitch, special thanks to Karl, Mark and Kent for the boat retrieval. One of our sailors capsized and after righting the boat it got away from them. They were spotted by someone on shore and they called it in. The Coast Guard found them in short order and they were brought back to us a little chilly but in good spirits. I think Dave could have done without the news crew.

Wanna know how to make a bunch of talkative sailors suddenly go quiet.......send someone over dressed in a Coastguard uniform and ask "who's in charge?"!!!!!!

Dave was super fast as well! We found the bottom on the way to the finish, which closed the gap a bit. We definitely went for it a little more than Ding on the way back. That is possibly the fastest I've ever went on a beach cat.

When I saw you scream by us, I remember describing the spray off your bow as smoke.

worse than Hiram's or just a different angle?

Re: Is Hagar this weekend? - 02/13/12 09:48 PM

The trip back south was a "death reach" angle. Windier than Hiram's puffier and shiftier too.

Ah, yes... "Back of the bus, Rosa Parks!" moments. I'm sure your sphincter is stronger from that day's workout.
