The only information I have is the name of the builder, Owen Minny, and I believe he lives in Costa Mesa, California. It wasn't too long ago that I heard a rumor that they were still having National Championships. Someone told me that the Pacific Cat 2 came out fairly recently, about 10 years ago. If you learn more, please let me know, because I keep info about as many boats as possible in my files. The Pacific Cat was the biggest catamaran fleet on the West Coast back in the 1960's when the Shark catamaran was the biggest fleet on the East Coast.

Best info I can find is from a 1990 sailboat guide, which lists the then current manufacturer as Westport Pacific Boats, 447 N Newport blvd, Newport Beach Ca 92663. ph 714-645-4520. Probably long gone but worth a shot. There was no class association listed as of 1990.

You might try the annual issue of Multihulls magazine, where publisher lists all known mfrs, clubs, associations, etc for multihulls.

A quick google for pcat, p-cat or pacific cat was not very fruitful. Found at least one race result where someone raced a PCat in last 2 years.

Howdy,

On the Old forum there used to be a couple P-Cat fans. I'm surprised they haven't checked in yet.

The Original P-can be seen in "Jaws" for a few seconds. It had a real rounded roach, and an all-up weight of 540 lbs.

There was a later version called the Pcat 2/18 which had a taller mast and thus more sail area. I think I have an old boat catalog that shows it. Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner.

The name Owen Minny doesn't ring a bell with me (Not that I'm an expert on the topic.) I do seem to remember the designer was Carter Pyle.

The designer on the 2/18 and 3/18 is listed as C Pyle/O Minney. The difference between the two appears to be the rig; the 2/18 carries 271 sq and the 3/18 carries 250 sq. Listed weights are 450 and 435 respectively. As of 1990 the 2/18 listed at $9382, $3000 more than a NACRA 5.8. I can see why they are hard to find. I also remember an article from the 1970s covering a distance race in PR with a fleet of H16s and P cats, so there must have been some on the east coast.
