NOR - One Day Distance Races - 05/28/12 04:25 PM

Happy Memorial Day and welcome to the start of summer… Damm these have been a fast few months. With this I do want to make a shameless plug for a few races we have coming of the coast of Ventura.. Maybe we can get some more racers this year!

Race #1 Frenchy’s Rum Run, June 30th, 2012.

This starts at the Mandalay bouy, runs out to Frenchy’s cove @ Anacapa Island and back to Ventura Harbor. This is not the technical of a race and the winds usually line this up for a beam reach our and a screaming beam reach in. There will be no chase boat, nor will there be a tow boat out to the start line.. The wind usually starts to build around 10:00 is so any competent sailor should have enough time make the start line..

Here is the website for the race - http://venturasailingclub.org/calendar/

Race #2 The Milt IngramTrophy Race, July 14, 2012.

Again starting near the Mandalay buoy, the race proceeds to Platform Grace and then Anacapa Island, leaving them to port. It then leaves the Ventura Harbor Whistle Buoy to starboard, and finishes in the Ventura Harbor entrance channel. Got a spinnaker, this is your race. PBYC will provide a chase boat for this race and will need at least five beachcats entered to make a class. Here is the NOR http://www.pbyc.org/RACING/2012_IS%20NOR.pdf and here is the entry form http://www.pbyc.org/RACING/2012_IS%20Entry%20Form.pdf

Race #3 Tri-point Ocean Race, August 18, 2012.

Again this race starts at the Mandalay Buoy offshore from the Mandalay Power Plant, proceeds around Platform Gina then Anacapa Island, leaving them to starboard, and finishes in the Ventura Harbor entrance channel. The handicap distance is 34 nm. THIS IS A FULL ON BEACHCAT RACE, and usually bring a few cat sailing legends out of hiding. If you’re planning on any of them this is the one to do, but I do encourage that you sign up for all three.. Again Here is the NOR http://www.pbyc.org/RACING/2012_IS%20NOR.pdf and here is the entry form http://www.pbyc.org/RACING/2012_IS%20Entry%20Form.pdf

And a note, I am currently boat-less and may be available to crew for the Tri-Point depending on how the little hip procedure goes in a few weeks.

Having done all of those races, I have to say they are awesome. Those three races are the only things I miss about living in California.

John, we Zonies had a great time last year doing the Tripoint, and will be back this year! Cant wait!
As it stands, we will have a N20, H-tiger, Bimar 18HT,and hopefully a TheMightyHobie18.

Great race! More fun than a barrel of constipated monkeys! See ya there!
Hope your hip is ready by then.

Manny will be there, but not on the 5.8. I think on the tiger. He picked up a Bimar 16. We will be in touch when we start making hard plans.
