Anything out there besides Garmin? Aren't some of you using an Iphone or other techno wonder?

Guess it depends what you want to do with it.
I use my android smart phone, but not as a navigation aid, just as a tracker.
I prefer to study the maps in the comfort of home and then hope I recognize the shallows / buoys once I get out...

This one: http://www.magellangps.com/lp/toughcase/index.html
With this application on an ipod or iphone 3: http://www.letscreate.dk/letscreate/?q=node/1

Battery life is not very impressive

I'd been having problems uploading data from my Foretrex almost from the beginning, this time Garmin tech support was stumped. Until, at the advice of the Garmin tech I changed my web browser from IE to Mozilla Firefox and the problem vanished. I tried Google Chrome first but that proved ineffective.

So, never mind! smile The instrument works just fine.

I wasn't able to run the track without signing up: sending my email to someone I don't know, importing, etc.

http://connect.garmin.com/player/91690890 with this I think all you have to do is press the play arrow. (You could test it for me.)

But they appear to be the same quality. In any case I like making them as a kind of scrap book or photo album. They are also useful for self critique.

Best iPhone marine navigation software:
Navionics Marine & Lakes App >>>

Toughcase is also a must for waterproofing and extra battery life needed.
