I don't necessarily agree with the overall qualification structure or some of the reasoning that has shaped things, but the Hobie 16 would serve as a terrific Alter Cup boat. It has an undeniable history in the world of catamaran sailing, one of the largest active fleets, and is a rather difficult boat to sail well.
I think that's great! I also like the idea of rotating through the 3 'Diciplines', ie. there will finally be a single handed boat next year.
Now, I just hope there are enough manufacturers who will 'donate' new boats for future events in the years to come. I doubt the single handed boat will be an A cat, so...will it be sailed on Waves? Is Hobie still making the 17?

I don't believe anyone is providing boats - it's still BYOB (or charter).

PIBYC has a bid in for Waves for 2015 in order to have back to back US Sailing Events: Alter Cup and Champion of Champions. Guess this blows that out the window. Rick
I don't think anything has changed. The H16 is a great boat and always has been. It's just that no one boat can be all things to all people and it's easy to misconstrue what is said on the innerwebs: no tone, inflection, facial expression, that sort of thing. I suspect there are few if any real H16 haters. Now 4ksb's...
I put this up toungue in cheek. It (the topic) has been or is amazingly civil.
Maybe the world has changed.
I will be a cool event, probably a very tough one to win!!
I think if they are going to do the Alter Cup on H16's, part of the competition has to be hanging with you guys, all night, at the Party on Saturday night!
Let's see how fast those west coast guys are when they are puking, going upwind all day!
there was actually a study done (no s*it) about east coast vs. west coast football players.
Turns out because of the circadian rhythm, west coasters do better at later events on the east coast, and east coasters pretty much have trouble at any west coast event.
So make sure you run the races at crack-o-dawn (and throw in Timbo's party idea)
