Tradewinds - 11/11/13 03:19 PM

Yes this far out on the radar, yes we still have to get through Steeplechase.
However, I'd like to get this overwith as the Islander sold out last year.
Is there a group rate for the Islander for Tradewinds this year?
And who's going to tradewinds that isn't registered?! I heard rumor of a bunch of PNW guys coming?
Thanks

Re: Tradewinds - 11/12/13 06:59 PM

There is a group rate.
Advise that Dennis Green, who has the beach operation, set it up.

The NW fleet trailer will be traveling to Tradewinds with at least 6 confirmed participants.

I'll be in Singapore, but Brooks will likely be there with Tyler Burd.

Re: Tradewinds - 11/13/13 03:17 PM

Are the A-cats doing their thing the preceding week? Does that affect sellout on certain dates? Chris Tuckfield and I are considering coming down again. Might be 1 or 2 others from MI, but not confirmed.

Re: Tradewinds - 11/13/13 03:25 PM

A-Cats are definitely racing on 13/14 and 15/16.

Re: Tradewinds - 11/15/13 12:27 PM

Definitely NOT a problem last year, and most certainly won't be this year.
A few even stayed for the regatta.

There is actually 11 F18's, Laura selected the wrong fleet when she preregistered. I told her I'd take care of it but she insisted. Skippers! They do require a good bit of supervision.

Re: Tradewinds - 12/21/13 01:02 PM

I believe one, if not two Fleet204.com trailers are heading down. A mix of F18's & H16s.
Posted By: wildtsail7

Re: Tradewinds - 12/21/13 03:04 PM

There are definitely some f18s not on there, from the northeast I know the following were hoping to come
Brooks reed/ Tyler Burd
Mike and Tripp (there goes all the fun)!
Rob Jerry
And I believe a few others

Re: Tradewinds - 12/25/13 12:00 AM

Alright it is confirmed. Joe and I are leaving the red boat behind and we will be sailing on a chartered F18. Thanks to Matt at Falcon Marine for helping to make this work.
never sailed a F18 before! Back to square one with one goal in mind- not to be DFL!!!

Re: Tradewinds - 12/25/13 01:28 AM

Good luck, Pete. Wish I was a bit younger.., I would love to sail one.

Re: Tradewinds - 12/26/13 01:41 AM

sooo, an f18 is just an overgrown F16 or midget N20 right? I am sure I can figure it out smile smile
Posted By: rehmbo

Re: Tradewinds - 12/26/13 12:32 PM

Glad to see you'll be down there Mr. Pettingill. Now you can sail with a real fleet!
That should make it at least 4 boats from the great frozen, salt encrusted, pothole filled north -aka Michigan. Any CRAW guys gonna make it?
Posted By: wildtsail7

Re: Tradewinds - 12/27/13 07:57 PM

Anyone want to charter a C2 or a Viper?
Posted By: wildtsail7

Re: Tradewinds - 12/27/13 08:15 PM

Up to 15 F18s!
I'll buy a few rum drinks for whoever can convince Karl and Beth to come!

Lol, I really hope you're bringing a rock star crew!

Oh, or a really overweight F18HT, right?
I have lots of experience on N20s, F16s, and 18HTs

Re: Tradewinds - 01/01/14 10:15 PM

Welcome to the F18 fleet, I really wish you the best of luck. It's the crew that makes these boats go, and there will be some fast teams at Tradewinds.

Unfortunately our boat isn't race ready; we'll be there putting the boat back together, might get out on Sunday or Monday for some tuning. It'd be great to jump on the Falcon for a test ride!

Re: Tradewinds - 01/06/14 02:56 AM

F18 entries are looking strong, although I'm not sure how Mike plans to sail two boats. Too bad that the F16 North Americans are the same weekend in Miami.

The following week: http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubm...?regatta_id=7500&custom_report_id=41

Maybe Mike is only racing the 17 in the world cup...

Re: Tradewinds - 01/06/14 04:58 PM

I am curious who from the F16 class was involved with making that event their North Americans? It seemed it just popped up. I don't know if anyone from the F16 class would have knowingly done this conflicting with tradewinds?

I'll fess up, I registered Mike for one of those registrations because he was taking forever. Mike isn't sailing the 17 right now.

There is no Nationals event for 2014 as the WC is going to be in the US

Wasn't there also a similar F16 conflict last with with Miami? ...or was it the Nacra 17s again?

Looks like F16 might have been a typo as there are no F16s registered for the event but a WHOLE mess of boats registered in the other classes.

Re: Tradewinds - 01/06/14 09:59 PM

The second half of the Youth ISAF Worlds qualfier is sceduled the same weekend as Tradewinds. It is open to all F16 and will also have the N17 so a number of the Olympic hopefulls will also be missing Tradewinds to be in Miami I am sure.
US Sailing pulled the same thing last year with the F16 event being at Clearwater

Re: Tradewinds - 01/08/14 08:02 PM

Its too bad US Sailing / F16 / N17 fleets (whomever was in charge) couldn't pool resources with trade winds and make it one event.... ah well, more beach and drinks for the rest of us.

Chris and I will be there, and as usual, our C2 is for sale ;-)

Re: Tradewinds - 01/11/14 03:31 PM

As of Jan 11th AM, the counts are:

A 1
F16 3
F18 22 (without the duplicate entry)
H16 6
Wave 8
N6.0 1
Tor 1

Shaping up to be a really nice regatta. Would love for the temp forecast to go up a few clicks, but it's gonna be great regardless.

Heading out Wednesday for our looong 1500 mile drive down.

Safe travels Jeff, see ya on the beach!

We're likely to really race Sunday and Monday, we need Saturday to tune the ride.

Re: Tradewinds - 01/14/14 05:09 PM

Thanks Sam. Good news for us is that we found a way to work the logistics to fly down to Tampa and drive from there. I'll take a 5 hour drive over a 24 hour drive any day.

Re: Tradewinds - 01/16/14 01:29 PM

No gambling charters for me. My boat is in the Tampa area. Landing in TPA in about 3hrs. God willing we should be there tonight around dinner time (or hopefully a bit earlier)

Re: Tradewinds - 01/18/14 04:49 PM

Hope you guys are having fun. Not a cloud in the sky here, about 70 degrees and a nice N breeze around 12 kts

And I'm north of you by about 20 miles (and the water is colder because it's shallow)

Re: Tradewinds - 01/19/14 03:55 AM

Very light wind today. Mike and Tripp are on top of the pile. Great regatta, tomorrow might have better breeze

Re: Tradewinds - 01/20/14 12:26 PM

Had a chance to chat with Brooks a bit about the racing. He said Saturday was very light and shifty, yesterday a little better with some double trap upwind but still some times where they weren't flying a hull downwind. Mentioned that reading the patchy breeze is really tough with the water being so clear and the variation in the bottom color... life is hard. Results for top ten:

Easton/Burd 11
Riccardi/Tebo 19
Christensen/Hoag 24
Prentice/Laroche 32
Marshack/Darrow 35
Reed/Herendeen 37
Humphries/McNeir 52
Tatuch/Barman
Sloan/Sloan 67
Jerry/Punto 69

Re: Tradewinds - 01/21/14 03:34 PM

Had a great time At Tradewinds. Big thanks to Falcon Marine for bringing a boat for us to charter. Awesome boat! Wish we had some more to get things figured out better. They screwed up the scoring for us, but it didn't really matter.
Posted By: Timbo

Re: Tradewinds - 01/21/14 04:57 PM

Why no racing on Monday? No wind, or too much? I was stuck up in Auburn all weekend, dealing with horse issues.
Posted By: samc99us

Re: Tradewinds - 01/21/14 05:34 PM

No wind. It was glass until noon. Most of us were happy to pack it up, we had some 6 stack trailers to load up.

I think we finished 13th overall, were in 10th on Saturday. Saturday was very light and shifty, downwind there were massive holes. Sunday opened with double wire upwind, we made the right call and kept the power on, plus avoided the rocks at the weather mark. They moved the course another mile offshore and we couldn't get in sync upwind for the rest of the day, plus a few 15-20 degree shifts came through right before the start and hung us out to dry. Oh well, learned a lot, had plenty of fun and the boat is back in one piece smile

Re: Tradewinds - 01/21/14 06:28 PM

Brooks told me it was sand at the windward mark....
Posted By: samc99us

Re: Tradewinds - 01/21/14 07:46 PM

Bottom is a mix of sand and rocks...not exactly sure what was at the top mark since we managed to escape unscathed. Pretty sure your boards are OK, at least they seemed fast enough for the rest of racing! If not, I've got a guy that can make them brand new for less than the cost of a quart of 2-part epoxy paint.

I'm not worried about it, it's racing! If you have a chance to send me a quick event report I can add it to what I'm supposed to be getting from the NW contingent.
