I guess PBYC wants to make sure RTI dies...

Re: Round The Island Link & NOR - 08/25/14 07:55 PM

It's totally ridiculous for 2 panhandle clubs to have a distance race on the same day! confused

My take (and I don't have a boat in the fight anymore).....

FWYC: Pros grin
Scheduled race with a NOR.
Long history of holding this event in September.
Launch at the host club.
Don't have to "share" the beach for access.
Food/drinks available as soon as you step off the boat!
Bathrooms on site.
Wash-down hoses on site.
Plenty of parking on site.
Cons:
NONE!

PBYC: Pros
They do have a scheduled race.
Cons:
Limited beach access with the fencing.
Must share beach with sunbathers.
Risky walk to club/beach across crowded highway (especially after you have had a few!).

So you can tell my "vote" would be for the FWYC. Sorry to see all this dumbassery but I felt it necessary to chime in one last time.

YMMV.

I feel like the teacher scolding the class! It's time for me to move up to a higher university.

See ya, it's been fun while it lasted!!!

Hey Bob,

Scheduling conflicts and last day planning have become vogue, dude. Trust me, Randy and I are trying. We are already working on the 2015 Trimaran Nationals (20th anniversary edition) with Don Wigston, Linda Wright, and, hopefully Corsair Marine. PYC has agreed to host the regatta.

We are hoping to change the lazy trend that has become too much the rule.

I am not surprised with this latest debacle in the least.

Hope to see you on the water again soon.

Fall challenges are here...Aloha,
B

Well Bert, please be decent enough to not schedule the trimaran race over the 50-odd-year-old Dauphin Island Race, which is something you've done for several years in the recent past

Here's my take on it...
It's a shame that two events are scheduled for the same day when there has been a shortage of events this year.
Neither event has been promoted
Neither club has supported other multihull regattas this year
RTI entry fee is $85 for two person boat
PBYC entry fee is $30
I'd rather start at 11:00 versus 7:00
I'd rather sail 50 miles versus 100
I like the Pensacola course better - more exciting, less monotonous and no narrows
I've done RTI many times. Pier and Back is new and different
I know several people who are more likely to do pier & back
Don't care to race one of a kind speed machines that don't have verified handicap ratings.

But, that's still a lame reason to schedule a race on the same day thats only 50 miles away.

I would have traveled to RTI, I would not have traveled to P&B. Now I feel that neither are worth traveling too as attendance will be split between them.

I agree! We really can be our own worst enemy.

I really like the RTI but I get why some aren't into the race.

I'm confident when the new guard has taken over the race will be resurrected and reinvented.

See you b!tches at Juana's!

I do not know where you have gotten your info, Jaybirdie, but I have never chosen dates. I have been on many planning committees that made final decisions. I just work to link physical resources with human resources and publish requested information.

Let me see...I do not recall you being on any of the committees, therefore one can assume that you are in the background and really out of touch with the game. We are catering to cruising this year per request of the sponsor, Corsair Marine. The event will be a couple days longer, and will contain its normal share of racing, but again Randy, Don Wigston and Linda Wright are aiming at clinics and cruises to satisfy all the trimaran owners.

At least we are working with our host club far enough in advance to plan a wonderful week of sailing the intercoastal and making friends. All PHRF trimarans are welcomed...including Wetas.
