NACRA 500 - 06/02/16 03:40 PM

Guys and girls - new to the forum but not new to cats. Been sailing a Hobie 16 for 6 years (recreational), also owned a Wave and Bravo. About to pull the trigger on a new NACRA 500. I sail on an inland lake in Michigan - nothing fancy but single handed most of the time. I have been searching and reading old threads but was hoping to get some updated views:

-Perf between the NACRA and 16 sounds similar (thoughts?)
-Quick rigging is important to me - going to get a furling jib (I leave the boat fully rigged sans sails); just want to raise the main and go!
-Thoughts on righting by myself (weigh about 175lbs). I had a helleva time righting my 16 - able to barely get it over using a bag

Any other thoughts are welcome! I do not want this to become a Hobie vs. NACRA discussion - that ship has already sailed smile

I have never owned a Nacra but I feel pretty strongly that a person weighing 175 should be able to right a 5 meter boat that has a displacement of 328 lbs (http://www.sailboat-data.com/en/sailboat/41-nacra-500)

The key is technique. for me on my 5.5 that means getting an anchor out. This will put your bows into the wind and will remove most risk of your boat sailing away or drifting into an obstruction
