Olympic Tornado U.S. National Championship - 12/06/02 03:56 AM

The Olympic Tornado U.S. National Championships got under way in Dunedin, Florida. Today’s racing got off to a slow start with incredibly mixed weather. The day opened with great conditions, air at about 72 and wind building past 15. The beach launch was delayed as the radar showed a nasty weather band offshore. Sure enough, we witnessed some truly BLACK conditions roll in with hard rain and growing fog. After a bit of clearing, the first (and only) race got under way in fading wind as the fog returned. By 3 pm only one race was completed and the fleet crept in through the fog via GPS or got a tow (see photo). Tomorrow should be much better as the front passes.

Here are VERY preliminary results, very unofficial!

The boats started coming in thanksgiving week and I got a chance to check them out. If they are ever in your area you need to go and see them. The way some of the stuff is rigged is slick.

Go Robbie, USA 804

I got to see a few 'nados with the new rig set-up here in Houston recently. Very trick! Carbon fibered carbon!

Go Charlie and Doug!
