P19 MX pole

P19 MX pole - 08/01/03 10:09 PM

It looks like I'm going to have to build an MX pole for my P19.
Does anyone have the dimensions? I was thinking 1/2 inch aluminum pole .010 wall. Also using 3/32 spectra for the side supports rather than 1/16 wire.
Too thick or thin? Has anyone broken one of these?
Any other suggestions for a 'best' setup?

My MX pole is 6 feet of 1 1/4" OD alluminum tubing.
the attachment to the bridle is 26" (cut at an angle) of 5/8" alluminum tubing.
Rope or wire will work (I use rope)
Never heard of one breaking from usage.

is that a spinnaker pole or does it stop at the bridle just for the jib? My 6.0NA pole is 13.5' long and pretty standard.

Thank you so much! I'm almost ready to order materials. If there are any pictures of the joints out there, I would use them.

The pole stops below the bridles, and then angles up at the same rake as the forestay.

Hi Dennis,
Just saw your post. I'll take a photo of mine this afternoon when I get home, and post it for you.

Hi Dennis,
Hope these pole pics help. Horizontal pole is 71 3/4" long,
vertical (not exactly vertical) is 25 1/4" long. Small pole is attached to large pole with bracket, pin and ring. Small pole is cut at an angle that relects the angle of the forestay. Small pole is attached (with metal tab) to a shackle that captures the bridle wire thimbles. I mounted small blocks for a downhaul system. I am happy with using aircraft cable with turnbuckles that are secured at the hull attachment for the bridle wires. Easy on, easy off with minimal stretch.
Lets try the pics,
Dave

Sorry,
I don't know how to post multiple pics, so I'll do them in separate posts.

O.K. Dennis,
This is the last one. Not being a photographer, I probably didn't do that good of a job. But, I hope that it will be of some benefit to you. I don't know the sizes, but I have never had any problems with this pole in the two years that I've owned it.

Thought I'd get one that gives you a better look at the end of the pole.

Re: P19 MX pole - 08/13/03 05:51 PM

Awesome! That's everything I need to get it done. Thanks, Dave! I hope I can return the favor somehow. Our "long distance" race is in Rocky Point, Mexico on October 18. About 25 miles total. Several P19mx expected. Some may need crew. See Fleet42.com if you're available.
Thanks again, Dennis

Re: P19 MX pole - 08/13/03 06:13 PM

You are more than welcome, Dennis. I would LOVE to take you up on the Mexico race, but it IS a fair distance from Florida. If you are ever in the Clearwater area of Florida, drop me a line, and we can go Gulf sailing. We live right next to a beautiful beach launch area, and can be in the Gulf in a few minutes. Dunedin Causeway is a very active cat sailing area. YEAR ROUND!!May I ask what you were using for a pole up to now? Attached is a pic where we raced into a bad storm. OOOOOWWWEEEE!!
