Incredibly Lame F-36 Review--Time to fight back - 11/18/03 09:19 AM
I happened to be browsing the Nov. issue of Sailing magazine this weekend and happened on a review of the new F-36 trimaran.
Now, I've never sailed on a trimaran but have seen a few smaller Farriers sailing and have read quite a bit about them. The review in Sailing magazine had to be one of the lamest excuses for a boat review I've ever read. The author wasted most of his words on his guess about the history of folding tris, how they capsize, and how it's small inside. He briefly mentioned that it's fast, but he didn't mention that it is in fact blindingly fast. He also didn't bother with the incredible technology going into the boat that many monohull sailors know nothing about (like high aspect main sail, the rig, use of carbon, the safety features, etc). In other words, he didn't cover any of the remarkable features that differentiate it from other sailboats--that's what I would normally expect a review to include. From the review I doubted whether or not the author had even checked the Farrier web site (http://www.f-boat.com)
PLEASE, someone who knows about the amazing Farrier tris needs to write to the editor and straighten the record. We can't let these ignorant boat reviewers get away with this rubbish. We multihulls don't want to be the step child a sailing anymore, especially when so many multihull design features are, to use a cliche, truly at the cutting edge. In fact, Farrier, M&M, etc are leading the way in innovating sailboat design concepts. Boy, you'd never know it from the F-36 review! We gotta fight back.
