Nacra 450 Mast and Beam Rigging

Nacra 450 Mast and Beam Rigging - 08/20/04 04:00 AM

Hello!

Got questions about making an album in the photo gallery. I registered, again, I think, and then couldn't log in. Couldn't see how to make an album, not sure if I was logged in or not.

So I'll post a couple pics of the bottom of my Nacra 450 mast. I need help figuring out where the lines go. Here's a list of blocks, eyes and cleats that I'd like to know what do do with:

1) fairlead/cam cleat on the front beam, port side, between the jib cleat and mast.

2) On the beam just aft of the mast step there's a block shackled to an eyelet.

3) Block on port side of mast.

4) Jam cleat on front of mast.

5) Eyelet on front of mast, above jam cleat.

6) Jam cleat on starboard side of mast.

7) Eye on starboard side of mast, forward of jam cleat.

Should be 2 pics, port side of mast on this one, starboard on next.

Thanks,
Danno

My new from the cathouse 01 450 doesnt have the cleat on the beam..maybe thats for the furler that you have
The two blocks I use them for a down haul of sorts for the main sail but I'm not sure of the exact routing..ending up though at the jam cleat on the starboard side of the mast
I use the eyelets on the mast for routing the halyards thru
for the main and the jib,the jib halyard doesnt get zippered into the jib..just goes up and around to the top eyelet on the jib and the btm of the haylard uses the frt jam cleat on the mast. Its pretty simple setup. The Manuals really dont show the 450 setup.
Call Mark Biggers at the Cathouse in Mich.He will help you out.

Ok so I tried to draw you some diagrams, but first I am a shitty artist, second, my camera died befor ei could take a picture of the front of the mast, so I'll have to try and explain it. This is just the way that I have things set up. The picture is of the 6:1 downhaul. The front of the mast (unfortunately couldn't get my drawing) Has a 3:1 jib downhaul, There is a block at the end of the jib wire, and the rope halyaard is tied too it, it runs down through a cheak block on the mast, then back up through the block on the halyad and then cleats too a jam cleat on the mast. This makes it adjustable while sailing. Also you will need a cleat to keep track of the end of the main halyard. This doesn't have to do much, because it is your downhaul that provides all the control of the sail. If you have a rotation inhibitor(can't rememberif you did or not) Then the downhaul setup is run on the inside of this. The downhaul is easier if you have one of those hinged cleats on the mast so all you have to do is pull straight out. Also, i agree that the cleat on your beam is most likely for your furler. To do this setup you would have to add some stuff to your mast, it probably doesn't have to be this complicated, and you of course can adjust things any way yoyu like. But this should give you quite a bit of control on your sail.
