Bruce,
You have picked the perfect locations and time of year to practice your light-air sailing.
If you get up to Ohio by mid-July the Stray Cat Regatta is July 16-17 on Lake Erie very close to us. We expect a fleet of about eight Waves -- in addition to all the other assorted cats, of course. See
www.sailocra.comSaturday, July 30 is the Sandusky Steeplechase, a 21-mile distance race from Sandusky, OH over to Put-in-Bay (the island where we live). Usually a good-sized fleet of catamarans. And there is usually decent wind.
And the Inter-Lake Yachting Association Regatta (Bay Week) is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (August 1-3)at Put-in-Bay. It's worth attending even if you don't get to sail. The harbor and docks will be packed with big boats that sail there in feeder races from around the Lake to participate in Bay Week. It's one of those regattas that is more like a "happening." There's a party every day as part of the regatta, and the partying is non-stop on the docks, where boats are rafted off at least five deep. All the boats flying their regatta flags. Quite a spectacular event.
There will be a fleet of Waves on the small-boat one-design course. Don't know yet if other cats are coming.
AND I can "reserve" you a FREE bunk to stay at our house. I don't rent it out for that week because I want to keep it open for cat sailors to stay free. Plus people can camp in our yard, and there is camping allowed at the yacht club.
E-mail me if you want more information, mary at catsailor.com
And all this applies to any other cat sailors who want to come to Bay Week. I want my house FULL of cat sailors this year!
