Please confirm that waxing the hulls is for storage only. Waxing the hulls does not improve boat speed. The best condition for boat speed is a smoothe, clean and unwaxed hull.

I am not sure if that is true, unless it is Brasilian wax. Brasilian wax is a whole nother animal when applied to a cat.

The MOST important thing is to make sure you are not running low on blinker fluid and that your canuzer valve is functioning properly!

I found wet sanded with 600 grit was the fastest but only lasted one or two races, because it would pick up crud.
Then I went to polished, and it would last one or two days until it picked up dirt, oil, grime, etc. from the sea.
I was never into cleaning the hulls every day. I ended up going with teflon polish, though it wasn't the fastest,
it had the best longevity over a week long regatta for an overall average, by keeping the grime off.
This was mostly gaged by how often I got clear air off the starting line, and butt dyno.
There may be something even better than Teflon by now to keep the film off.

I'm done with this thread and the waxing. Our two cats have been flipped over in the backyard waiting for sixty degree weather so we can use the Vertglass system that's sitting in my garage. I just checked the weather and we have a chance of rain every day for the next week, normal for this time of year in NY.

We don't expect anything near seventy degrees until the end of next April, so we may as well put them in storage now and focus on the kayaking and upcoming ski season (feels like it's going to be in three weeks).

We've closed up our sailing container on the beach and winterized the tractor and the outboard motor with a beach party (very cold, I might add) last Saturday. We're done.

Anybody want to buy all my wax? I'm converted (thank you Jake very much) to an ALL VERTGLAS, ALL THE TIME kind of guy. I'm going around looking for stuff to put it on.
As for the season being over ....... Still hoping for one more sail before it goes away for the winter. 40 miles away from here, on the top of Mt Washington, they have 1 1/2 feet of...snow. This is when I get jealous of you guys down south and especially Bruce in St. Croix. You folks can keep the hurricanes but I'd swap the rest with you in a heartbeat. Seems like I just took all the summer stuff out of storage and now I have a weekend of puttin' away to do.

Look at the bright side, your boats are LOW mileage.

Just one thing more about waxing. Like a lot of you I've tried just about every wax out there. Except for one none of them last on a car let alone a boat thats in the water alot. The only wax I really like and in my opinion lasts the longest is called Liquid Glass.

OK so, back to the Brasilian Wax, it is certainly more interesting than carnuba and teflon.

I agree. Brazilian wax... it's the only way to ride your cat..

If you're naive (like me) and don't know about it, do your own Google search on Brazilian wax. You will NOT find a carnuba replacement.

I don't care if it's fast or not. I just put Vertglass on a blue 1987 Hobie 16 and a white 1990 Hobie 18m and I'm impressed! The temperatures almost reached sixty and the sun came out; within four hours I managed to get six coats on each and used up the entire bottle of sealer. I'm converted!

Brazilian, Canubian, North Dakotan, whatever...I just wanted clean hulls. At my age, I'm happy to be riding these things...I'm kind of anal anyway.
