Rear mast Cradle

Rear mast Cradle - 08/28/06 08:30 PM

Anyone know where I can find a rear mast cradle that fixes to the trailer. It has a bracket that attaches to the trailer then a square bar fits into it with a cradle on top for the mast. I've included a picture on my friends, but can't find anyone that makes one like this. I'm not looking for the on in murrays catalog or one that fits on top of the rear cross bar.

Thanks,
Mike

I have the same set-up. Try here magic tilt

You might want to call them and ask.

I got mine from a local Hobie dealer.

One other thing, my strut is longer than your buddy's so you might keep that in mind if ordering sight unseen.

That looks like a pretty simple setup made from easy-to-find parts. You can probably take that picture and a few measurments to a metal fabricator and have it custom built for your situation.

Steve's right - way cheaper, too. I went to a supplier here in Jacksonville and bought a 22-foot stick of 2-inch by 2-inch aluminum. Took it to the guy building my trailer and it took him so little time that he threw in the fabrication of the fore and aft mast stand, AND a cat trax stand on the front. I put my stands up high to accomodate a double-stack when needed.

Jdub, do you have a close up of the cat trax stand? It sounds like a good idea.

Heya Derek -

I'll get a better shot e-mailed if you need one - basically had the 2-inch welded to a plate at the bottom with four holes for U-bolts. Add a 2-inch wide flat "Y" at the top with carpet contact-cemented onto it to hold the axle. These stands are two-feet high, which I would have made shorter if I were doing this again.

I've thought about getting someone to make one. Just figured someone out there in the U.S.A. makes something like it. The link to Magic tilt gave no results. Thanks for the reply, it was worth a shot.

When did you get a blade? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Now that is a sexy boat cover!

Question, seems like that trailer is pretty darn long, how long more or less is that trailer of yours?

Re: Rear mast Cradle - 08/29/06 08:09 PM

I spec'd it at 23-feet from ball to rear - needed the tongue length to keep from hitting the bows on the motorhome in a tight cut, and because the mast can't extend forward past the hitch. 2,300-lbs capacity for double-stacking. Whole package with stands and extra lights cost less than a Trailex with half the load capacity. I had to add the cradles, though.

Oh, it came through alright. Both times. I was, and continue to be, speechless... and that's really difficult for someone like me. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
