2007 NAF 18 Rankings - 02/06/08 07:11 AM

I have a preliminary result page for those who would like to take a look. I would like to get the results from the East and the South so I can complete it.

You can see it at: 2007 F18 Rankings

Dan,

I'm not an F18 sailor, but just interested in what's going on around the sport... I noticed on the Hobie class website a ranking list for Tigers that includes many names not on your list. Do you collect data only from open class regattas, or is there some other criterion involved in determining what gets counted towards your rankings?

Mark.

This is a ranking list of the Formula 18 events. A Formula 18 event requires that all classes of Formula 18s be invited. There are 5 areas in the US that we have ranking numbers from. They are West, North, MidWest, East, and South. You can see the areas here: NA Formula 18 Area Map

Canada has decided to be it's own area now but I keep it on the map anyway. Mexico is in our area but we have not received any results from them.

Right now I am missing the East Results from the page and hope to be able to include them soon. I have a column for Others which I was waiting for more results to break them out but have decided to clump them in. That is the new column you see on the right.

Thank you for taking time to look at it.

Hi Dan,
How's this division between the NA-F18 and Canada-F18 going to work for points recording? Up here in the Northwest we're going to be racing both sides of the border.

Are the Canadian points based on the exchange rate; or do they have a metric points system? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Seriously though, half our F18 regattas will be in Canada.

Don:

I would have to say that the only fair way is to include those in our F18 results. Canada used to be part of the NAF18 group and you are in a unique place where you sail as much north of the border than you do south. I really do not want to take any potential sailing away from you. I only care that Class racing is happening.

Another region that is probably of concern is the Great Lakes area. Does anyone have a good solution for this or can we say that Canadian regattas count for NAF18 sailors. Maybe, just as a thought, if there are three NAF18 sailors participating in the event?

You guys tell us what you think is the fairest way to do it.

I trust you'll set it up to be as fair as possible. But, it's really a non issue for me. I'm so far down on the list <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Dan,

I think everyone up here in the NorthWest would prefer that all of our regattas count towards NAF18 rankings. Lumping us Western Canuks with those back East doesn't make much sense at this time. We'll all be joining NAF-18 Class Association, but possibly not the Canadian. Can't imagine anyone from here is going to go to Ontario or Quebec for any regattas, or anyone from there coming here. There will probably be a number of us heading to California for the West Coast Championships, which will hopefully travel the coast in the future.

Let us know what you think
