2015 New Caledonia - 09/26/14 09:20 PM

Any interest from the U.S. Teams in this?

I want to organize a big f18 race in New Caledonia in September 2015, do you think some crew can come from USA with there boat? I built the first Capricorn with Martin Fischer in 2001 and I organized the Capricorn Chalenge in 2014.

I think 3 days of banana races and a long distance race to island of pines. You can have a look on Google earth. some crews will come from Australia and some from Europe.

Some write up from this year.

NOR? Schedule of events? How are boats getting there? Are charters available? Sponsorship options?

How many boats are planning on attending??

Sounds like they are trying to turn this into another Catacup. Catacup works because everything is well organized well in advance. The event finds the sponsors to get your boat there, organizes housing and food. You just need to get yourself there and the boat to the correct port. The also schedule it when the season is ending in the Northern Hemisphere yet it is still warm and windy on the island. September is in the middle of our sailing season-we'd have to pick between this and half a dozen other events, including Catacup and Nationals with over 40 boats at each (vs. 7 at the 2014 Capricorn Challenge).

While it sounds like a fun venue, you really need to start selling it hard to justify the costs in attending. Having my boat tied up for the Fall over one race would be a no-go for me, I think many would agree.

This year there were 8 boats there. 3 days of windward leeward racing. Plus 2 days of distance racing.
