Whitebread XI - 08/05/04 09:12 PM

I think I've succeeded in getting a beach catamaran division in the Whitebread XI, Saturday, October 9th, 2004.

Please go to this website for the NOR:
http://www.pbsa.net/Download/NOR_Whitebread04.pdf

Once they post/mail a registration package, I will ask ALL cat sailors to mail them directly to me before the early deadline (9/22). I will act as the fleet captain, converting D-PN's to PHRF (so they can score us), providing a launch site, safety requirements, hopefully a chase boat, etc.

Let's try to have a good turnout so we will be invited back again!

Re: Whitebread XI - 08/19/04 05:57 PM

Hi again,

I just got permission from Southold Town to use the Luanching/Parking Area in New Suffolk for all the catamarans to launch from for the Whitebread XI, Saturday, October 9th. So far all the little ducks are starting to form a row...
However, the event Chariman, Rob Lehnert has still not yet secured a Principle Race Officer to run the race itself. Any volunteers from someone who is NOT sailing? I did it two years in a row.

Steve
P.S. William, I hope you get your cat trax back. If not, feel free to borrow mine for the Whitebread Race!

Hi,
The entry form and race instructions are at:
http://www.pbsa.net/WBmain.html
The deadline for the beach cats is the "early deadline", which is 9/22. So there are less than 7 days to get your race application in!

Need a Volunteer... - 10/01/04 06:14 PM

Hi,

Well the deadline has passed for registering and it looks like we have 5 multihulls competing (4 beach cats, 1 tri). I would have liked more, but this is a good turnout.

We could use someone on a power boat to act as a chase boat (and maybe take some pictures?). I could supply the boat, if necessary.

Please contact me ASAP.

Thanks!

Whitebread XI Results - 10/11/04 02:27 PM

Hi All,
The results for the 11th annual Whitebread Race are posted at:
http://www.pbsa.net
A brief summary:
4 beach cats and one 43-foot trimaran showed up for this prestigious 33-mile race through the Eastern

Bays of Long Island. A total of 106 boats were registered. The wind was light but steady from the

Southwest. The mulithulls started an hour after the first and slowest division of monohulls, and 15

minutes after the fastest of the monohulls, which including and IMS 58 footer stacked with America's Cup

crew. About half way through the race, the lead cat, a Prindle 19MX (Greg Gove / Rich Belkin) was about

to pass the front 3 monohulls, putting them in the lead when they snapped their jib halyard and had to

hit a beach to repair. A tight race with the Hobie FX-1 and the two Nacra 5.5SL's was now on, with the

tri not too far behind. The cats continued to work their way through the huge monohull fleet, and the

P-19MX was back in it trying to recover lost ground. With only one rounding mark left, the P-19MX became

the lead cat (again) with the FX-1 closely behind. At the finish, only 3 monhulls were ahead of the

cats. What a feeling, to pass nearly 100 boats in a race! In the end, only the IMS 58 had a better

total elapsed time. These are the results for the multihull division:

Skipper/Crew: Boat PHRF TCF ET CT
Bellavia/VanKuik Hobie FX-1 58 1.0691 4.693 5.017
Palmer Dragonfly 1200 90 1.0156 5.241 5.323
Gove/Belkin Prindle 19MX 10 1.1607 4.675 5.427
Partenelder/Partenfelder Nacra 5.5SL 36 1.1092 5.038 5.588
Seluga / Seluga Nacra 5.5SL 36 1.1092 5.041 5.592
