Hobie 16 Modifications - 12/07/06 08:37 PM

I am going to make the following modification to make this boat more user friendly for motoring out of a canal and setting up in deep water single handed. I am going to replace main halyard with low stretch Vectram. Not to sure why initial halyard has so much wire. It only uses the length to the reef button. I will Remove the halyard hook at the mast top and tie off at the bottom of the mast like other boats. Should make it possible to raise main single handed before the boat drifts into problems. I am purchasing a Hobie furling rig with the Hobie 20 design. It will use a zippered jib and allow the jib to be removed while boat is not being used without lowering the mast. I have the winter to work on it.

Sounds great. Let us know how you plan to rig this. And keep us updated on the progress.

But..."other boats" have some kind of hook at the top of the mast. Unless you use something in the way of a lock, you wont have much downhaul capability.

For your purposes this may be OK?
