main sheet dropping overboard through trampoline - 06/14/07 11:25 AM

We are going to participate the [color:"red"] Round of Texel [/color] - The Netherlands- June 23, 2007 (biggest Catrace in the World [http://www.roundtexel.com/] with almost 500 subscriptions already!!) In rough conditions (waves) the main sheet tends to slip through the apertures in the trampoline - especially the rear one. Very inconvenient when both hanging in the trapeze! Tried to avoid this by inserting kind of mesh which actually does the trick more or less. Does not seem to be a long lasting solution however. Anybody a (better) solution?

other question: we have to have 2 paddles somewhere on board - which we will almost for sure never use. We would like to attach them under the trampoline to keep as much free space as possible. Any suggestions?

train your crew to tend to the slack in the main.

Your crew should be holding the traveler line. This takes up a lot of the slack. There shouldn't be enough to fall through after that.

As my traveller doesn't really run smoothly when sheeted in we use the traveller line as kind of chicken line at the same time. Finished 273 out of 509 competitors (483 finished)

Both of you thanks for your reply.

I put the paddles under the tramp in the middle, parallel to the hulls. Used some old stretch cord to create loops, which I tied around the tramp lacing running up the middle. I put the paddle in from the back, handle first, then stretch the front cord to wrap around the small handle (if you don’t have you can improvise). This works really well, never in the way, tight up, so no dragging and easy to get when needed (might have to get a bit wet).

I use a plastic paddle that flexes a little and I put it on top of the tramp. The handle goes up through the lacing a few inches, then I slide it back to get the end of the paddle blade under the lacing. It isn't in the way yet easily available. It helps keep the main sheet from going through the lacing but doesn't eliminate it from happening.
