Need H16 Rudder Castings

Need H16 Rudder Castings - 04/18/03 07:49 PM

My '81 H16 rudder castings don't have the rake adjustment like the new ones do. And although the weather helm builds big biceps, I'd rather use up my calories in other ways. I've looked in Murray's, and they don't seem to have the new castings. Does anyone have any adjustable ones for sale, or know where I can find them? (I've already redrilled my rudders for max forward rake which helped somewhat)

The lower castings are $130 each and the upper castings are $131 each. I'm not positive if you would need to replace the upper and lower or just the lower. I can certinly find this out if you would like. Let me know if you would like more information!

You really only need the upper casting if your cam and plungers are ok. I have only ever backed the
bottom setscrews off so they don't do anything. The upper adjustments are required to get the rudders
to lock down all the way forward. The rudders will probably need to get re-drilled to get the correct
rake.

Check the hobie catalog for the following and you won't need new castings:
[color:"blue"] EASY RAKER Provides the same
adjustability to the older Hobie 14 and 16
upper and lower rudder castings as on the
later model boats. Simple installation requires
electric drill, drills, and tap. Use your own
drills and tap or buy tool kit that includes all
necessary material except drill motor.[/color]

It's a whole lot cheaper than new castings.
