Is there a way to make a H16 tend itself while I do something else?

Maybe trim the jib and let the main loose and lock the helm to windward a little bit?

What I do in light breezes is to center the main and jib and kick up a rudder part way. The boat will make S turns into the wind because of the weather helm with the partially raised rudder. I haven't really done it in stronger wind.

Set the jib in backwind postion, main out somewhat and bungee your helm over.
