H16 Europeans - 01/05/06 09:27 PM

Hey all, i'm considering trying to get to the europeans this year for the first time and wondered if any of you guys who've been to them before could answer a few questions since theres no info up on the website at the moment.

Roughly how much does it usualy cost you guys not including travel which obviously varies a lot, just registration fees and such?

Also am i right in thinking that the boats are provided for the competition as in the worlds?

And anything else any of you can think of that you might have done differently going to your first big comp or anything you think you did right.

We're not expecting top ten results as such but will be tring to do our best and hopefully not embarrass ourselves, at least not on the weater

cheers

I tried finding an NOR for the 2005 event, but gave up, since the information seems to be scattered over at least three different sites and the EHCA site doesn't even have results.

Apparently, the event was organized by a sports promoter (Prosail), which may explain some of the disorganization.

In reading one of the daily reports from the IHCA web site (here), it appears that just the sails and battens were supplied.

In looking at similar events, the entry fees for double handed boats were about 150 euros.

Sounds like you'll need to wait for the NOR to come out to find out exactly how much it'll cost.

Hi Hangover,
what do you want to know? I have attended several Europeans with my HC 16 as well as two US Nationals.
So I think I can offer some help here.
All events are in general Bring Your Own Boat, however al leatst for the Gold Fleet you get factory supplied sails. Therefore the costs are significantly lower than attending Nationls in the US. Most of the people sleep in their RVs which you may rent in the area.
Details for the event will be sorted out in the next week as the EHCA (European Class Assn) will have their annual meeting in two weeks time.
For sure there will be a lot of parties. The rest will be on the website soon.
DonĀ“t hesitate to ask any more questions.
