Trailers

Who makes a decent aluminum trailer? I've got a trailex, and I'm not real happy with it.

I've checked around lately. Most Hobie dealers will sell a galvanized trailer separately without the boat. I've found them from $1100 to $1300.

The only people I know of with Al trailers lasting a long time are Trailex. I love mine. I've had it for 3 years and no problems.

Hmmm if you do not like the trailex trailer you probably will hate the alternatives!
I typically see two types of steel based trailers - both types are available in galvanized and painted. Magic tilt is the most commen one - it is a pretty corse construction - bolted together with U bolts and other hardware. I forgot the name of the other model, but it looks a lot alike - just the mast support looks different and it does not have a tilt function (is useless anyway).
If you do not like your trailex trailer I trade you!

My Trailex cam with my 85' H16. I didn't pay much for it and I'm thankfull for that. When you grab ahold of one of the hulls and move it laterally the whole mess moves, alot. I want to add a deck underneath the boat for storing gear, and a set of beach wheels, plus it would be nice to have a good footing when launching. I really don't think it would be wise to double stack on it. And it's way too short. There should be another foot of distance between the rollers, and possibly another three feet added to the tounge so I can slide the mast further forward when towing with an SUV. There is a number of places that have been welded/repaired by the previous owner, and I'm about to have the tounge repair where the trailer couple connects to the toung (it is starting to rip apart in the channel of the extrusion). Frustrating!!!

Sounds like your Trailex is just old. Aluminum trailers don't rust out like most steel trailers do - they just vibrate themselves to pieces and get loose.

The Trailex model you have sounds like the original H-16 model which is small and not very stiff to begin with. The newer versions are beefier.

I'm planning on being at the Division Championships. I got myself back into 1st place in 16B, so I've got to defend that. Shouldn't you change your name to "Flatlander 20"?

Defend? I thought a 1st place B fleet finish at the NCAC was grounds for "Welcome to A fleet"?
