Lindsay,

There may be some interest from Somers Mozzies but we would have to sail over to Merricks and with the tide against us it could be a long trip over. There has been talk of leaving Somers at 8:00 am. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Mozzies would be in Div 1 with "A" class F18s and Tornado's.
(Sailing Instructions are correct and Notice of Race will be adjusted). <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

I think only the best Mozzies would have a showing against some of these "hot" sailors and their ultralight speed machines. That leaves me pondering whether to go or just have a tuning session around the Somers Yacht club area.

Still undecided. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Regards,

Peter

Hi Gents,

I wasn't planning to go as I can only sail on the Saturday. If You are looking for some racing, we have a heat of our club aggregate, 2 short courses back 2 back, on Sat arvo. 2.30pm

It can be lonely in division 2 with all those Paper Tigers (specially the fast ones <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> )so Mozzies are always welcome at McCrae <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Cheers

Simon,

Sounds like a great plan. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> I can cruise over to McCrae at about 11:00 and help you with a bit of tuning before the 2 back to back races if you like. Much more civilized than getting up at 6:00 am <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> and watching the back of the newest Mozzies. Maybe I will watch the back of your Mozzie instead.

Peter

Peter,

A Plan it is !

I'll be there at 11.00.

If you get to see the back of my boat it will be a priveliged position indeed. You'd be the first Mozzie to do so, at least since I've owned her! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

See you then

Simon,

Thanks for the hospitality at McCrae Y.C. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> Always good to have someone who can show you around (entries, protocols, local knowledge etc.)

It was great to get out for a bit of tuning prior to both races and see what conditions will be like for the upcoming state titles on the other side of the pier. Nothing wrong with your boat speed !

I see that you won both races on handicap. Well done. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Hope any advice I gave was useful. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Keep up the good work flying the Mozzie flag. Now we just have to get you over the line in front of all those pesty Paper Tigers.

Peter

Hi Peter,

No trouble at all, It was great to have another Mozzie in the fleet for the day, particularly as you beat all the P.T's over the line. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Thanks for the tuning tips.... I guess that will be the end of my fairly "generous" club handicap. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> It was the first time I've beaten any of them on yardstick, which is probably more pleasing than on handicap but hey! I'll take a win any way it comes.... they're rather rare. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Any news on how the Mozzies did at Merricks?

Cheers

you missed out on some good racing over at Mericks, the morning race was light 5-10 knots then it built to 20 in the afternoon which made for some good racing and i suprisingly finished 3rd over all compeeting against tornadoes, a class, hobie 16, 17,18's, tigers and three other mozies two of which had kites !

Re: sail peninsula interbay challenge whos going? - 02/10/08 08:54 AM

Simon,

2 Mozzie from Somers (Jeremy and James Pearse) sailed over to Merricks for the challenge. Both were set up with spinnakers. Ian Jeffrey from Merricks was sailing the other Mozzie cat rigged.

1st race was in light conditions, 2nd in moderate conditions and 3rd race in strong winds.

Reports are that the sea conditions were sloppy.

One of the Somers Tornados was holed between races.

Peter

DIVISION 1

Mossie with kite 1st
Tornado Sport 2nd
Mossie Cat 3rd

Pretty tough day at the office. Left Somers at 9am, two hour drift to Merricks against the tide, 3 races and returned to Somers in 20 knots in washing machine conditions at 5:30pm. Slept well that night.......

Jeremy,

Well done. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> Mozzies kick butt again.

I keep looking for the results on the Merricks website and Yachting Westernport but nothing posted yet. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I assume that it was you in 1st place and not James. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Do I dare to ask ? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />

Peter

Re: sail peninsula interbay challenge whos going? - 02/19/08 05:24 AM

Peter,

I received an email reply from Merricks last Friday. I can't find any published results. James did well completing two of the three races. Fist time he had raced with the kite.

James, sailing cat rigged, got his revenge on Dad last Saturday cleaning up the whole of Division 2 by a big margin, winning both yardstick and handicap. I need my old boat back <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />!! Division 2 had 21 boats including 7 Mossies. A bit lite on. Where were you Peter?

Jeremy

Re: sail peninsula interbay challenge whos going? - 02/19/08 11:49 AM

Jeremy,

I saw the results posted on the Somers website; and James beat you by 10 minutes ! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> No doubt I would have got my butt kicked in the light conditions.

We went to the Yarra Valley Grape Grazing Festival and 2 nights accomodation in the area. Great weekend wine tasting! Saturday spent on a bus with a load of other wine samplers going on a winery crawl. Each winery had a band playing. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Looked at the watch at 2:35 pm, thought of you on the start line then drank to your health. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Regards,

Peter
