Sea trials complete

Hi All,

Happy to report that sea trials our now completed for the new boat. Third outing yesterday in the sort of conditions that Gary loves so much at McCrae.. Lots of wind from ssw, changeable with some nasty! bullets and the mandatory chop.

Observations:

Ronstan orbit block is great in a blow.. very easy on the hands

7:1 off the traveller is a bit much rope on the tramp when working to winward

I never new tacking could be so easy

Didn't have to get as far forward when working... in fact past the stay tended to put the bows in

The new boat bobs back out a lot quicker than the old when you stuff it to the front beam

The boat will sail for aprox 150m without me on her before tipping in

I need some non-skid on the deck and a foot strap!

The bottoms of the hulls look very nice from sea level as the boat blows away

My mast is very well sealed and Mozzies come up a lot easier when they're at min weight and don't have any water in them

Looking forward to catching up next weekend at Paynesville.

Sounds like you need a leg rope on the new girl. The new hulls are definately a world apart from the ply ones of yesteryear.

Who's sails and boards etc did you go for? (free advertising time now).

The list:

Ashby Sail (from the old one as it was only a season and a bit old)

Mast: I'd built a new one last January.

Boards: Off the old one. They were from JK Fibreglass and designed for these hulls.

Rudders: Fully assembled with carbon cheeks from JK. Pop them on, a quick alignment and off you go! Alloy cross bar with my trusty old orange conduit tiller ext.

Tramp: Goodalls..great fit

Blocks: Ronstan s55 Orbit triple ratchet, with Triple Orbit at the top and the little extra to get my 7:1. Running 8mm sheet

Track: Ronstan series 19 with car to suit.. cleated on the centre beam. 6mm

Boom: The old one... to help me remember where I've come from

I still sail disgracefully but at least look smart while I'm doing it.

P.S. Heard we've lost Bill to the darkside... is that true?

Good to hear you are up and running (sometimes swimming) on the new boat.

The boom doesnt help show you where you have come from, that is what the wake is for

And yes, Bill did fall off the edge of the Earth - He seems to be enjoying it, but I think it is only a front

On a serious note, it's a shame to lose him. I guess he'll still be a nice bloke even if he has gone to "the other 16 footer"

He is still a nice bloke - it's just that his boat is heavier to help haul up onto the beach (grass for us inlanders)now.

I happened to see you last Sat 6th Nov, when on the water at McCrae in my powerboat, and seemed to think that you had too much weight aft. I know the conditions looked tricky, with a light shifty SE breeze in race 1, but from where I was - near the windward mark, you looked poorly balanced. Just a friendly observation from a long time (ex) mossie sailor.

On the old one I needed to be further forward than the new one. Still working it out.

Mossie 1822 "The Unsent Letter" hit the water for the first time yesterday. This boat is certainly quick out of the box and with ideal conditions of 7-14 knots I scored a win on yarstick.

You certainly looked fast on the video, and in the lap results. It looks as though I have have some competition from a Mossie again, rather than leading a bunch of hissing but friendly snakes around

Also looks as though the Fat Bomber will be back on the water courtesy of a new skipper so we might be back up to 3 - 5 Mossies regularly - Good news
