Re: wild cat regatta - 10/10/13 11:01 AM

Hi all,

well Wildcat Regatta lived up to its name in more ways than one. 93 cats entered (thats Wild), 4 Mossies with spinnaker joined in the medium mixed cat div with Taipans etc. Matt, Tash (Wild effort 1700km travel each way, all those that didn't attend should hang their heads in shame), Brett (Gold Coast) and I (Vic). Mossies gained Line Honours in all races (that made other cats Wild) grin and handicap honours whistle.

Also had 1 Mossie sloop in small mixed cat fleet, with Greg finding the wide open? spaces of Wallis Lake a Wild experience, normaly sails on Grafton River crazy, and came away with 3rd place. Full results on Website.

Wildcat because of Wild partying, because of Wild boats (A classes with all sorts of Wild appendages) crazy, but also because of Wild crashes frown . Saturday F18 holed A class, Sunday A class wrote off one hull of a Hobie 18. But worst of all Monday Nacra 16sq, put major hole (yet to find out if written off) and broke mast, tore sail etc of Thrice Bitten, ended up with Nacra completly supported clear of the water on top of upturned Mossie, in water depth I could stand in sick.

Wish I could have been there gents but the new job is priority at the moment. Glad to have another mozzie joining spears point, and if the weather is ok will break out the spinnaker tomorrow.
Being a harbour pilot in Newcastle is taking a fair bit of doing.

Gary, you had me feeling like I'd missed out..... until the 3rd paragraph! sick

Hope you have a quick claim and get back on the water. Cat champs wouldn't be the same without you there causing mischief smile

Cheers

Sorry to hear about your boat Gary. The mozzies certainly made an impression as I have had a number of people approach me at Speers Pt YC.

Thanks Luke,

Yeah there was lots of comment at the event as well, allways hope that it opens some peoples eyes to the possibity of sailing a Mossie.

It's 10 years since the first time we took the Mossies with spinnaker up there, but it felt like most had never seen them before with spinnaker.

So what other cats are at Speers Point?

Re: wild cat regatta - 10/13/13 03:37 AM

Some Nacra 5.7s, a lot of F18s of various description, Taipans, a strong arrow fleet, Hobie 16, 18s and tigers.

I reckon 4 people mentioned to me about the Mozzies at Wildcat. Great results from you guys.

I also had some interest in the boat since a lot of F18 guys are struggling to keep regular crew, they don't want to pay heaps for an A class only to be superseded 6 months later, and they like the kite. I just need to beat a few more of them to generate some more interest.
