Spinnaker for sale. - 12/23/14 02:39 AM

Hey everyone for sale is an original cut Irwin spinnaker. Since bought it would have been on the water under 30 times and never used in heavy breeze. Is in great condition but is being sold due to handicap changes leaving the old Mozzie unable to compete when rigged with spinnaker.

Wow your not wrong! 77 for a sloop and 78.5 cat rigged, good luck in a mixed fleet with that! I thought I was suffering at 66.5 for the f18 lol

Hey you missed the point if it's only about Yardsticks.

Don't forget sailing with the spinnaker is twice as much fun grin .

Besides if you've only used the spinnaker a few times, you haven't even got the Mossie with spinnaker to top speed yet. You wouldn't believe what the Cat rigged Mossie with Spinnaker is capable of, which includes sailing to it's current Yardstick.

So the mozzie that was rigged with this spinnaker sailed sloop, and was built in the 70s. Has a platform weight of 80+ kgs. If you are able to get this to beat your brand new cat rigged spinnaker mozzie I'd like to see it....assuming of course the yardsticks are correct? smile

No doubt in my mind that the Sloop rig Mossie Yardstick is wrong with or without Spinnaker. The Association has tried to have it changed, but requests have fallen on deaf ears so far.

Yachting Victoria isn't doing it anymore, they are relying on information from a guy in NSW (who by chance once upon a time was a Mossie sailor), who claims to be using at least partly a European Measurement System to come up with the Yardsticks. But also has designed the Yardsticks around performance in over 15 knot winds, because that is what we sail in most of the time. crazy

There is an easy solution to this, for club races at least.....as the Rye handicapper I have put all non-spin Mossies on the same yardstick....."swings and roundabouts"!!!

As a heavy sailor on a light boat I've found it is still skill that has the advantage with the Mossies......if sailed well they all go well.

My two cents worth as I depart the class... I resisted the kite for a long time. Having sailed with one every weekend for the last 2 seasons I look back and wonder what on earth I was thinking! It's just about the most fun you can have with your pants on and I'd never go back to sailing without one cool

kite or no kite, the mossie class is a great class, the people and the social the competition between us is amazing. i sail all configurations and same as my brother, yes its a buzz with the kite and so more with sloop on heavier days 15 knots plus as we just send it downwind and i also sail sloop at times and cat rigged (most of the time), and i race with guys who have a kite and prefer not to use it but it make us work for our win with kites, the more we push ourselves to the limit the faster the class becomes cos of the hot competition.
With sailmakers, riggers, boilermakers and don't forget the champions state and national from mossie and other classes, are currently sailing among us in the mossie with a lot of experience (40 yrs for some) will guide you to sail your mossie to the best experience ever.

Remember the mossie class has 4 configurations to choose from. i have all 4 and love sailing in all 4. means you can sail anytime even when your crew is unreliable.

Sail for fun

take it off of the orange boat and set it up on the white one...... that would be an unbeatable combination.

Karp will be running a kite when she makes it out of the shed and I don't think you'll like being that far behind
