Lake Boga Easter Regatta - 03/20/15 07:48 AM

Hi Gary .
I wish this regatta was closer . There's not a lot of choice for us mossie sailors up in Qld.

'You had better keep an eye on that Lake Boga racing team.' they may be inclined to let your tyres down or put sugar in your fuel tank. They play it rough when it comes to competition.

Re: Lake Boga Easter Regatta - 03/21/15 11:13 PM

Thanks for the warning Dave wink , yes I have fallen foul of the Lake Bogan Racing Team dirty tactics before (at the States at Bendigo they used a voodoo doll to make me sail in the wrong direction upwind cry ). They will stop at nothing to beat me (one of them even uses the same first name shocked ), but luckily the Lake Bogan Racing Team will be running the regatta this time, so I won't be racing against them I hope confused.

Hey Mark, great to hear you are coming, I will be sailing with spinnaker, what about you?

Yeah F16's are supposed to have Nats there, will be interesting to see how many turn up.

Hi there

Does anyone have an update about the algae problem at Lake Boga?

http://www.g-mwater.com.au/news/media-releases/2015mediareleases/bgawarningforboga.html

It's a bit of a worry ...

We have the Cobra state titles there at Easter.

Hi all,

The Lake Boga Yacht Club Easter Regatta is definately going ahead. We have the F16 Nationals,Cobra states, and Fireball states being run within our regatta.
Yes there is an algae warning out on the lake, but the lake is not closed. It is apparently the lower strain of bluegreen algae that is there,if it was that dangerous the lake would be closed, We are still sailing on the lake and there are no visable signs of algae in the water, apparently algae is only toxic for a short time when it blooms and the weather is currently too cool for it to bloom. The weather is forcast to be a lot cooler in the next 2 weeks which is in our favour.
Come to Lake Boga and enjoy a great Easter of sailing and socialising.

Re: Lake Boga Easter Regatta - 03/23/15 09:45 AM

Hi all,

Currently I'm counting over 10 Mossies attending and thats without knowing which Bendigo Mossies are going. So Mossies should have another good turn out, its great that the locals that have to be off the water running the regatta are lending their boats to boatless sailors to add to the numbers.

Re: Lake Boga Easter Regatta - 03/26/15 08:52 AM

Hi all.

After looking at my options for regattas over the long weekend, I have decided to make the journey from Qld to where all the Mossie action is this coming Easter.

So I have decided to join all the fellow sailors and travel the 1500kms to Lake Boga. This regatta definitely looks like it's worth the effort to travel to and be involved in.

Re: Lake Boga Easter Regatta - 03/26/15 08:59 PM

Thanks Greg.

Yeah It would be good if some more of us Northerners were able to join in with the swam.

The trip down should be pretty good actually . Because it is all country driving.

Almost there, done over 500km so far.only taken 4 days.

Re: Lake Boga Easter Regatta - 04/07/15 05:49 AM

So took 750km to get there, arrived to the warm reception that only Garry J could give. Awesome turn out of boats, over 100 in all. Mossies well represented, 7 with spinnaker (giving them their own division) on the windward and return course starting 5 minutes behind F16s and same time as A's, Taipans and F18. 4 cat rig and 4 sloop rigged on triangle course, putting them in a mixed division of over 20 cats. See sailres.com for results, under Lake Boys YC easter regatta 2 listings w/e is for windward and return course.

Weather was warm, Friday afternoon was light, so was Saturday and Sunday morning, Mossies with spinnakers had a lot of fun, beating many of the Vipers, A's and Taipans around the course, Matt and I swapped spots heaps, with Gordon getting a early birthday present, taking out one race.

Sunday arvo was easiest to remember, there was some wind! Trapezing at last, so sick of sitting on my feet, still very gusty though, I did everything wrong first race, in irons going backwards at start, last off the line, capsized avoiding Mark on Starboard on second down wind, then fluked a amazing beat to catch Matt and passed him on final downwind. Second race I couldn't do a thing wrong, just blitzed it from start to finish, even passing an A at the finish whilst on trap with the spin up.

Re: Lake Boga Easter Regatta - 04/07/15 09:07 AM

Hi Gary.

I have worked out why the fish were a problem on Lake Boga.

They must have been trained by The Lake boga Racing Team to attack selected sailors, in the hope that when they got caught in the rudders they could slow them down.

They may have used an old Jedi mind trick or they could be
Voodoo fish.

Re: Lake Boga Easter Regatta - 04/12/15 09:46 AM

Hi Dave,

Good to hear you are keeping in mind the Lake Bogan Racing Team and their wicked ways wink. But seriously, in all my years of sailing I have had trouble with flow on foils from all sorts of things like weed, plastic bags, jellyfish, bits of wood and other rubbish. But never fish shocked. We waited 2 days for wind and then when we got some wind, the damn fish slowed me down crazy. But at least they didn't break my rudder lock down and make me miss races, as happened to Peter N cry.

I finaly got home today, according to Gary J, it's because of my slow Subie eek. Managed 2,000km in the 2 weeks, gee its a long way to Boga, via Echuca and return via Mildura, but a great holiday smile.

Thanks so much to all of the Lake Boga crew for the hospitality and a special mention to Garry J, for helping to make a regatta a great holiday. grin

Re: Lake Boga Easter Regatta - 04/12/15 12:27 PM

Yes. The Lake Boga Easter Regatta was a great success.

Without the volunteering efforts of the club members and the other people to support them, These sorts of events just wouldn't happen.

Thanks from Queensland. I have told them up here how good the venue is and how good the hospitality was and the great quality of the food too.
