Mozzie Trailers... - 04/05/06 08:31 AM

Ok all you Mozzie freaks... As you may be aware I have acquired a mozzie and am in the process of building up a half finished trailer for it. What I would like is all those great idea's people have done to their own trailers for ease of use, etc.

So post your trailer pics and let me steal all those great idea's, muwahahaha...

This is my first time on the forum so hope this works. There is a good trailer design on the Victorian Mozzie Website which you could alter to suit yourself. From your photo you've got a bit of work to do. The fore and aft beam support system takes the pressure of the hulls and limits the flexing on the beam/hull joints of the boat during transit.

Re: Mozzie Trailers... - 04/05/06 10:23 PM

Yeh have seen that one. I am pretty keen to support the hulls at the fwd beam though. I am considering a bit of a hybrid between hull and beam support... Yes the trailer, if you look closely at the pic you may notice 'The keeper of the trailer' is keeping an eye on things... her name is Daisy. As you can see pretty much everything has been pulled off the trailer as the welding of all components was pretty questionable... I will post more pics as I go.

Hi Tony
There is another page (actually a PDF file) on the VMCA site now which documents a trailer like the one you describe. It was added a few weeks ago. It's the "Bear Talk" trailer you see at the top of the list on the Technical Tips page.

Tim

Thanks.. I have been through the tech tips page and found it very useful, cheers. I know there isn't a great deal you can do to a trailer but you never know what idea's lie out there until you ask. Anyway its killing time until I get that 'thing' that goes on top of the trailer.... Apr29 can't come fast enough.

Forgot to mention...

As my trailer is being rebuilt from an existing frame the side of the trailer has the name..
"Mosquito - Eat My Shorts"...

Anyone ever hear or know of this boat???

Cheers

Is the cradle ready for the baby? I believe she's due next week is she not? Is Phat Cat, your name for the new boat or is it the current name you're inheriting. Hope the guardian is going to be cool sharing her yard with another cat!

The cradle is just about to a point where I can get the mozzie home. Once home I will form fit hull cradles and the like. She is due this next Saturday the 29th... 'Phat Cat' is the new name... current name is 'Bronzed Mozzie'. Wow I didn't think about that.. hehe. She may get jealous.. maybe I can bring her in and show her the warm spot in front of the fire during winter...and introduce them slowly...

Cheers

I will post some more pics later today..

Well the trailer is almost there... just gotta add rollers as I am waiting on the pins turning up. I have it to a stage where I can get the mozzie home and continue with hull supports, etc.
Spent today painting, adding electrics and marine carpet on the guards and mast supports.

Col cheers.... yes two sleeps to go then its christmas all over again. My wife and I just can't wait.

I was considering sailing it on the trailer in the front yard on Sunday just to get to know the setup etc. You know get the mast up and down and see how she's setup. Play with the sail shape. Just don't want any surprises out on the water.

Quick tip. Check for a righting rope. I didn't realise I didn't have one on my new boat until I'd sailed a couple of times. Luckily I didn't need it.
