Shouldn't the same post be repeated in the general discussion forum? If so, maybe the entire text and photos could be copied to the post, so that people don't need to follow the links. I would do it myself, but don't want to borrow the honor from the designer and builder.

One small correcton for the next publication: the class started as a thread that became a discussion group years before 2007. It gained momentum in 2007 following the exclusion of the Tornado from the Olympics. This is also about honoring the right people <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'll probably follow the advice and post on the "main page", however, I would suggest that you shouldn't cut and paste articles off other web sites. Sites like crew.org are funded by advertising and their attractiveness to these advertisers is assessed by hits. If you copy and paste their content they don't get rewarded for running the story.

You are right, of course. I was too focused on improving marketing and forgot about everything else.

Wasn't the Tornado dropped from the Olympics in november 2007 while we were already discussing possible F12 class rules in september/oktober 2007 ?

Also the F12 was formed as an alternative to the laser radial dinghy not the optimist. Hence our max sailarea limit of 7 sq. mtr and max hull length of 3.80 mtr. (both shared by the laser dinghy)

And of course as Luiz says, F12 began a good while before winter 2007. The idea started with Phill Brander in 2003. I made the first artist impressions of it in december 2003 and went public with it in 2006. Then we had a major discussion and effort in december 2006 and januari 2007 on the open forum but that stalled as we couldn't agree on the specs. A restart was made (by me) in autumn 2007 and a very similar thing happened again; finally we settled for the broad class rule set we have now and Retired Geek and Scarecrow launched their designs a few weeks/months later. The design by Phill and possibly my own are still waiting for sufficient funds and time. All this while (except the launching of the designs) happened BEFORE the Tornado was excluded from the Olympics.

The F12 project has been a long an bumpy road and its beginnings are no where as clear cut as the article makes it out to be.

But a very good promo article for the F12 nevertheless. I still believe this F12 is be one of the very best concepts in sailing. If the cards are being played right then it can be an international hit. Especially when rotomoulding and designing enough volume in the hulls to carry an adult as well. I'm thinking, rentals, sailing schools, sufficiently performant fun boat and kids/teenage racer. All for a sufficiently low (attractive) price.

The concept is great and deserves support, whatever differences of opinion might exist. In the end it is the "consumer" who will decide what he wants, all we can do is try to direct things towards the common goals.

Try and find a magazine or internet story that isn't over simplified. They don't exist. The point is the story is up and people are seeing it.
