Trampoline

Question for Gato probably,

I think the DS12 has rectancular beams how did you attach the trampoline to it, did you make it yourself and are you happy with it.

Gareth the DS 12 tramp has a sleave at one end and at the other end wraps around the beam and laces back onto itself. This is made possible by the fact it has no traveller. For best results you stitch on large loops and then thread a glass rod through the loops. This stops the tramp bunching where its laced.

We're currently looking at the logistics of tooling up for production (rotomoulded) and will probably use the mast extrusion for the fwd beam to get the maximum return from the die. If we do that then it will use the bolt rope track at the front.

How is your project going? any photos?

The reason I ask is that Gato appears to have square beams, (I also have square beams on my rotomoulded F12) I am concerned that the corners will cut into the trampoline sleeve.

We had a baby last month (my 5th) so its a little hectic at present and I haven't progressed much, I am hoping to be sailing for the first time next weekend, plus my wife wants the boat off the deck. I don't have a workshop and so all work is done outdoors, that said the light nights mean I can get things done after my day job now.


Our cadets start in a couple of weeks and I really want the boat ready for then. I Don't have any photos of the boat assmebled yet but will try and take some photos at the weekend and post them.

Yes the boat does have square beams both in design and in Gato's implementation. I wouldn't envisage an issue with wear, infact as the beams are soft (6061) I wouldn't be surprised if the tramp slowly wore down the beam corners, we've seen this happen on ali hulled RIBs.

I can not say it's a real problem with the wear, but there is a tendence. I would go for rond beams if I would make another F12 cat.

It will not work, at least at its present state of development.
The designer obviously has insuficient knowledge about boat design and engineering, he still has a lot to improve before an acceptable rowing performance is achieved. A sailing cat based on two of those would require even more R&D afterwards.
