Why don't more people use this forum for tris? It is a lot easier to use than the yahoo forum.

I agree. I check this one quite often. But there are only a few of us here.

Only have to check the yahoo forum about once a week to find anything worthwhile. It seems to be more of an owners forum as opposed a sailors forum.

Tom,
I think we should start our own discussions here then... maybe draw the yahoo guys in. Fewer adds here, immediate postings, easier to follow... can put pics in the post.

I'm in. Prolly get Katherine G in on a few, too.

Congrats on you new boat. You'll have to post some pics when you can.

Thanks,
I need to take a pic of it. I wish I had taken a pic of it attached to the truck, but I certainly will have the opportunity to do that in the future.

My guess is that while many tris sailors have come from beach cats, the activities of the tris have more in common with Monos than with beach cats so people may not think to look on this site. I monitor anything to do with racing that I can find! I'm just not usually very vocal.

Sailing a tri probably has more similarities with sailing cats than monos but owning a big tri certainly has more to do with owning a mono.

"Life is too short for monohulls"

p.s. it bothers me that someone has to approve my posts on that forum. Although a referee is good sometimes, it isn't necessary.

Re: yahoo forum - 11/22/07 02:33 AM

Having never sailed monohulls, I can't say whether is sails more like a monohull or a cat. My experience, however is that whenever I race my corsair I am at a yacht club with monohulls participating on the same race course. Its rare that a beach cat is even within sight and which brings me to my point, "out of sight, out of mind".
I agree this site is much more user friendly! The Corsair 28 Association also has a forum but it is not as easy to use as Yahoo and gets used even less than this site. Only thing that Yahoo has is that a lot of non racers are actively using it. You can find the Yahoo site when you search Corsair in a browser. I have not seen this site come up in a similar search.

Suddenly occurred to me that I talked with your husband about possibly crewing for you guys at the nationals last year..

This format is certainly easier and faster to use.

I have just moved across from the F18 Forum as my F32 plans are in the post and my workshop is ready to go once I get the materials sorted.

my eldest son has inherited the my Infusion, my youngest son has inherited the H16 from my eldest son - that leaves me with the Dragoon to sell for materials!

Lets keep talking and this forum will get going.

I posted something over on the yahoo forum about it (probably been asked before). I wonder if the referees/moderators will allow it to be posted .

I'm glad to finally see some activity here. It's been too hard to get any info from Corsair owners other wise. Does anyone know if the F-24 class is active in Florida? I thought they were going to get some type of a circut going?

Quite possible. We were looking for crew for it. Cliff Farrah was able to set us up with crew in the end. Are you in Fort Walton Beach area?

I don't know anything about a 24 circuit; however, these were the Corsairs at last weekend's Marco Island Regatta. Six of them were 24's

The Corsair Marine forum isn't very user friendly and the postings don't cross ie. 24 sailors don't see 28 sailors postings and vice versa.
If you wanted more info regarding the 24's, Ed Dixon may be the person to contact. He arranged the Marco Island event.

Re: yahoo forum - 11/23/07 06:13 PM

I think the main reason the Yahoo forum keeps more traffic is just that's the one everybody'a been using the longest. Even when the new open forum came up here, it took awhile before the old version was closed out, even though the new one was far better.

So - everybody keep posting and get some good content here and the tide may turn. That having been said, there's a great wealth of info on the Yahoo forum, use the link for the upgraded search to find it.

As for whether the tris are like cats or monos - I think the point is well made that ownership is more like a mono in that you are now dealing with a larger boat that has many systems the beach cats do not. You'll get more stuff from the big suppliers than from Murrays! Batteries, outboards, fuse panels, galleys, heads, remote engine controls, etc., etc., etc....

As far as sailing goes - I think you can go both ways. You can sail your tri like a mono and be happy - it just won't be as fast as if you take its performance possibilities into mind.

Re: yahoo forum - 11/23/07 06:57 PM

Seems that tris would sail more like cats because they generate more apparent wind than a mono does which changes sailing angles- most dramatically downwind. But then again... what am I saying... I have little experience on tris SO FAR!
I have sailed on Strategery (crazy dude on the boat let me drive it the entire race! ) as well as a 750 for 1/2 of the FWB RTI in 2006.

Re: yahoo forum - 11/24/07 04:40 AM

I guess my point was that some folks will buy these boats after sailing monos for years, and sail the tri in the same manner. It will feel a little livelier, and they'll probably be happy. Folks who know a little more about the apparent wind that can be generated will sail hotter angles and be more comfortable heating the boat up and get more performance.

Hi Craig! Missed you guys at the Marco Island Regatta. Looking forward to seeing you at Key West Race Week. I understand that some of the 28R's are also doing Fort Lauderdale to Key West Race the week before. Any hope for getting Brian Harrison to do Key West Race Week?

Re: yahoo forum - 11/28/07 10:39 PM

Yes, we missed everyone as well. Brian and the boat will not be there. Looks like his boat will be up for sale in the early part of next year.
