Alternative to conventional traveller - 03/28/07 02:45 PM

Has anyone tried an alternative way to the conventional rear beam mounted traveller, they are expensive, not curved as standard and when mounted along the beam are not very effective at maintaining shape as you let out the traveller

A suggestion would be a wire /s ( to prevent too large a pulley size ) mounted between the beam bolts with a pulley working upside down, I know the F12's were proposing a rope travellor, it would be extremely light and inexpensive. Any thoughts and ideas <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

It would work, but I think you would find it very difficult to effectively control the angle of attack and twist on the sail compared to the car based system.

How would you keep the mainsheet point centered and effectively control the angle of attack through the range of the beam?

I think what you are describing is found on the older Super Cats...My 1982 SC 17 had that type of arrangment. They later changed it to a more conventional straight track/car system, which my 1994 Super Cat 17 has.
