Adjustment on trapezes

Adjustment on trapezes - 04/09/07 09:04 AM

Well went out for the 2nd day on the newly purchased taipan today. The day was magnificent, a little light but a great afternoon of sailing getting a feel for the boat. I have four trap wires 2 of which are fixed and the other are adjustable, I would suspect i would put the adjustable trap to the aft of the boat. Can someone confirm there set up.

Regards

That is how I run them.

Adjustment, you mean the dog bone or something else?

It has an d loop to connect to a harness and then a rope adjuster to change the position of the d loop.

but does the line from the d loop go through an eye on the trap line to a plastic thingie (rope lock) then to the bungy? Or is there a line that goes straight from the d loop to the trap thimble? If so, I wonder how it would attach to the bungy.
Or are you talking about a block on the trap line that the line runs through?

Could you possibly post a picture of your set-up? Thanks... <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

but here is a good diagram/pic of them from the Nacra assembly manual. This is the d loop (in the pic, the black rings with the handle in the center are the "d" rings) to a yellow line going through the eye of the trap wire to a plastic piece the line is wrapped around and you can adjust the line by changing the wraps then tied to the bungy. there are different ways to do this, but hopefully this will help you out some. page 7 cut and paste the address because the whole thing isn't underlined

Thanks,
OK, these I'm familiar with but they are actually no easier to adjust on the fly then a figure 8 so what’s the point? <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Re: Adjustment on trapezes - 04/12/07 04:02 AM

Do you mean adjustable while in use, ie. like dinghies with a pulley system to raise and lower yourself, or do you mean adjustable when not in use?

My crew has a pulley adjustment system, I have a standard cat system similar to the one in the nacra manual posted above. This is so he can adjust to lower than me upwind and we can reduce windage. Bonus is that he will deflect the spray!

You can see the adjusters in the background wiht the yellow line.

On my Stealth we run the adjustable traps for the crew. I use a dogbone that gives me a simple high/low setting. The benefit of the crew having the adjustables is that he/she can always set to the optimum position no matter where along the boat he/she is trapezing. In addition he/she can get below or above my eyeline so that I can see where to steer!!

PS We use the RWO racing clamcleat system

In that photo, the shock cord looks like it is going to the cleat in the system. It usually goes to the top of the ring. With those particular rings, the shock cord goes to the loop in the pulley.

Also, that white/pink/purple rope going through the tramp should go to the spanner at the base of the mast, not to the boom.

I have edited the photo but can't seem to upload it atm...will try later.

I've got adjustables for me (will do the same if I had regular crew).

But I also have dogbone type that allow high/low.
