LOOK- what i've found - 04/23/07 10:01 AM

It's amazing what you find just laying around in some people's back yard.
It's had a bit of dirt/ mould on the hulls (see bow shot)
I'm hoping to get it sanded and a light layer of filler on it, then sanded off and painted
i'll keep you all posted

Sorry Tim, but the step up in the deckline in front of the main beam means it can't be a T.

I would kill (bad phrase these days I guess) for a nice project boat like that. I will need something to do next year freezing my butt off in Michigan.

Ice yacht, supposed to be very good conditions in Mitchigan.

Gives you something fun to do during winter, when the water is to hard to launch your 18HT.

Why are you going to be in Michigan next winter?

Finally out of my current "obligation" with the worst run medical organization in the world in July. Back to the real world. Wife works part time in Michigan now and I start full time there in August. Rochester Hills, suburb of Detroit. Should have plenty of time to travel for the most part. I am keeping the house in Navarre and the HT, which I am only half owner of, will be down here too. Now the question is- would a Blade do well in the chop of Lake St Clair or even Lake Michigan?
Timbo- BTW... we are putting risers on the rear beam of the HT.. ought to improve performance/speed downwind in moderate/significant chop. I will need to post pics.

Re: LOOK- what i've found - 04/24/07 02:30 AM

There are some sailing clubs on Lake St. Clair as I recall, I was there about 25 years ago, maybe they have cats by now?

Have you seen any pictures of Pete Johnstone's HT? He did the whole "Pimp My Ride" treatment, including raising both beams I think. See if you can find "The Bleading Edge" on Google and look at the pictures of his boat.

the photos i posted of the taipan that i got was also from a back yard its 11 years old and it is brand new and has never seen sand paper or water the guy just lost interest. The brother and sister of this boat both have won national mk1 championships here in AUS. All I had to do was a little bogging and fair up hulls for paint. Painting will be done in a few weeks will keep everyone informed thanks Danny

Re: LOOK- what i've found - 04/24/07 10:56 AM

Hi Danny

Are you talking about 003 and 004, Noel Grellet on AUS 003, Venom, has recently won the Taipan Vic States AGAIN!!!

003 and 004, sailed together for years at the Stawell Yacht Club, which as the trend goes, hasn't got much water. But they used to always be the top 2 boats, both at state and national level.

004 is still being looked after, if we get some water somewhere around here, we'll try and get him motivated again.

Re: LOOK- what i've found - 04/25/07 05:18 AM

Hi Phil I am in Adelaide and will be setting up for full f16 spec as we have more f16s here than we have Taipan class legal boats. Matt as for your question the other boats were 153 155.
James sage 153 Darren Peters 155 these guys with the help from Warren Symonds built the boats the one i got was Warrens.

Re: LOOK- what i've found - 04/25/07 06:58 AM

Danny

I wasn't aware that there was a 4th wooden Taipan built in Adelaide at that time. The other boat that was built then was AUS175 (Ready or Not), cat rigged and originally owned by Ian Verrier (ex ruckman in the SAFL). Ready or Not went to Queensland in about 2002/03 after a marriage break-up. As you know 153 is still raced out of Adelaide SC and I saw 155 in the photos taken at the last Nats in Melbourne.(Victoria).

Richard,

At least now if the pressure cleaner
breaks down you have a backup plan.

Re: LOOK- what i've found - 04/25/07 12:14 PM

Phill,

Chris Dean has mentioned to me that the boat Danny has bought was the sister boat to James & Darryn's boats. I think the previous owner was Wayne .......? He lived in Brighton & never finished the boat. I really only know all this as we borrowed the mast of this particular boat to make a mould for carbon masts. Pitty about the section having a 4 degree twist though . We managed to get the twist out of the mast to make the mould, but could not permanently perswade the mast...sorry Danny.

Re: LOOK- what i've found - 04/25/07 01:12 PM

Marcus,
Under the circumstances you are lucky to get a straight mould off the mast.
Co-incidently I also have a set of Taipan hulls (the 5th set I been involved with) that just need the decks put on.
Been trying to motivate myself to do this.
I lost motivation when I started the Blade project.
Hard to get motivated to finish something I don't need when I have so many other things to consume my time.

Regards,
Phill
