Live at Eurocat Carnac

Live at Eurocat Carnac - 04/30/08 06:06 PM

Illegally posting (pirating on a unsecured wifi spot), so I hope everything comes trough.

It's raining!

The 5 F16's will be racing in the C1 class. We had some difficulties registering because we aren't an ISAF member. Only the Stealth was on the list.

We had lots of wind today. Nobody went on the water. Boat is fully rigged. Start tomorrow at 3 o'clock. Weather looks ok. Wind will decrease towards the weekend.

Right now the sun is coming out again so we are gone for a drink on the beach.

Cheers!

Re: Live at Eurocat Carnac - 05/01/08 08:48 PM

Day 2 - Today started windy, but it calmed down in the late afternoon. We raced in the C1 class (all boats with rating lower than 107). I think there were about 30 boats in our fleet. A lot of Mattia Esse’s, some Tornado’s and a FX One (don’t know if it’s the Extreme version or not).

We were with 5 F16’s present. John Alani, Hans Klok, Paul Warren and MarkP all sailed one-up. There were 3 races done. We went very fast upwind, but downwind we always lost some places. I think we finished overall in the middle of the fleet.

We raced from 3 o’clock until 7 o’clock, all I want to do know is eat and sleep.

This morning we also had an interview with a journalist from the French sailing magazine “Voile et voiliers”. She went with Gill on the Blade, crewed and steered. After that I got on board and she made a lot of pictures from a Zodiac. So we will have some very nice pictures of us sailing. We sailed together with a Spitfire for this shoot. They were also a mixed team. The Spitfires are well presented here, and they have their own start on the same rounds as us. The F18 class is the largest class here. They are divided in 4 groups and are moving between groups.

Tomorrow we have the long distance raid scheduled. This is a very long (100 km) run and I am still doubting if I’ll go or not. It will depend on the conditions tomorrow and the social pressure, I guess. I hear it’s a beautiful run, with lovely scenery. After that we have Saturday and Sunday left for racing, but predictions are there will be less and less wind.

Later,
Kathleen

Kathleen,

If I may, you should participate to the long distance run. That's really beautiful. I found it also more fun than just go around buoys...

have fun!
thomas.

Re: Live at Eurocat Carnac - 05/02/08 11:24 PM

If C1 division is just diff boats grouped because of rating it would be interesting to see who is on what type of boat.

Is there a way of finding out what boats are being sailed?

I'll drop Olivier an email and ask if they can put the boats up too.

Google is your friend:

#1 Francis Ferrari is on a F18HT (Javelin? he's from Bimare)
#2 GBR 415 is a Tornado
#3 Hans Glock is a F16 (Blade)
#4 Mattia F18 (probably put in there for a lack of measurement?)
#5 ?
#6 is a women crew on a Mattia Esse
#7 is a F16 (Blade)
#8 is a Mattia S Sport
#9 is a Tornado
#10 is a Tornado

Pepin,
Thankyou.

Scooby,
Do you know if these are across the line or if corrected time placings?

Francis Ferrari is sailing an X16 I believe as he is sailing on his own (I'd not sail an 18HT single handed in this race) - we have just calc and SCHRS for it - bit slower than an F16.

@Phill, I do not know if it is handicap or over the water; I ASSUME it is on Handicap.

I'm sure it's handicap - I certainly didn't beat those Ts on the water. I'd be interested to know what handicap that X16 is entered.

It's a shame they haven't published times or combined results against the F18s and Spitfires, as we were all on the same start.

The official SCHRS rating based on the measurement of the boat earlier in the year is 1.007 vs F16 (single handed) at 0.982 so not a massive difference.

Re: Live at Eurocat Carnac - 05/05/08 08:59 AM

Folks,
Anyone know if there was racing on Sunday May 4?
Looks like the event should be April 30 to May 4 so I was expecting some results for May 4.

Phill

Re: Live at Eurocat Carnac - 05/05/08 03:39 PM

****-ups, not entirely unrelated to the previous evening's activities, but this did mean that I had an excellent spectator seat for the end of the first race which saw Hans finish second on the water, beating three of the four Tornados. A very impressive result in conditions that weren't obviously favourable to a 1-up F16 - the Ts were twin wiring upwind, and the course included a couple of reaching legs.

Combined results from Friday's long distance are now up too:
http://www.yccarnac.com/version2/upload/copie_raid_eurocat_inc1_s.htm

Hans put in a very respectable 36th (out of 158 finishers), and I was very pleased with 77th in this fleet. The results don't include boat type, but the majority is the very strong F18 fleet, and those of us on the singlehanded F16s are giving them over 2% on handicap.

I enjoyed the long distance race, as the large fleet meant there was always someone nearby to race. The conditions were light but consistent, mostly just shy of trapezing conditions, and then dropping off at the end of the day. I found that upwind, when not trapezing there was absolutely nothing between me and the F18s around me, but once up to single trapezing I had a slight edge. Downwind I found it was definitely possible to make ground on the F18s, but in these conditions the boats are very close.

Congratulations to Gill and Kathleen, as first F16 in the overall results. It's a real shame we didn't get some more of the round the cans races in, as we had some good close racing amongst the F16s, but still, it was a great week and I'm definitely thinking about doing it again next year.

Re: Live at Eurocat Carnac - 05/05/08 07:13 PM

We're back now also. We did manage to race the long distance and it was beautiful, but very long (6.5 hours on the water). We did screw up somewhere and only finished 148th.

The end results are not yet totally correct. Hans got 2 DNS (1rst and 3rd race). He protested and they posted his results (19 & 16) but apparently they didn't add them to the end results. So overall he should be 14th we think (and first F16).

There were also 5 Mattia Esses sailing I think and the first overall was a Mattia.

It was fun and a good meeting place for the beginning of the sailing season. It was nice to see the other F16 sailors again!

Also appreciate the fact that you all (incl. John, Paul, Hans, Marc) made the effort to attend. Good exposure for the class.

I assumed as it was only his name on the long distance race he was single handed.

F18 != F18HT : http://www.18ht.ch/design-en.html

A F18HT is a single handed, main+spi boat.
A F18 is heavier, carrying two crew and has a jib.

Pepin,
From the link that you provided-

The 18HT is an open class of high performance catamaran carrying a mainsail and spinnaker and sailed by two persons.

Re: Live at Eurocat Carnac - 05/07/08 07:05 AM

The 18ht are the most common cat sailed cat in my port.

They are a two hander boat.

If the wind is below 2bf, they may go out single handed.

Hu? Okay. I'm confused too then :S Is that one of those annoying classes that can be sailed both solo and duo?
