Membership Update - 07/29/08 12:47 PM

Folks,

Since F16 class membership was made available via the F16 class web site http://www.formula16.org/
we have received a good response from all over the world. I'm still getting applications coming in daily
which is very encouraging. If there is anyone out there that you think may not be aware of how easy
it is to get behind this great class by signing up please let them know.

For those of you who have now joined, you will soon be receiving an email confirming your membership,
welcoming you to the F16 Class and thanking you for stepping up to the plate and supporting the class.

As a class member you will be called upon from time to time to contribute to the decision making process
concerning the class. As with any other classes, participation in this process will be limited to class members.
We will be looking forward to your valuable input.

For those of you who are thinking about joining the class I can assure you that your support would be welcomed.
The more support that we can muster the greater the presence that we will have in each country and the flow on
increase in numbers will enhance everyones enjoyment sailing in this great and exciting class.

Tony,
Unfortunately Singapore is pretty quiet..
On the other hand we are getting better than expected response to join the Australian Association,
UK Association and Dutch Associations as well as joining or renewing membership to the USA Association.

Also people that are starting F16 groups in many other countries are joining the International Association.
This is especially good news as it will help the class develop in these countries. They are stepping forward to
support the global movement and it also allows us to, in turn, support them until they have the numbers to
form their own national associations.

All in all, lots of positive indicators and it's looking good for the future of the class.

Phil,

How many are needed to form a national association?

Thats all good Phill.
Singaopre will be good to get on board, considering the size of their fleet. And I would love to do a Global Challenge over there.

Australia has 12 registered and another 6 that have enquired and indicated that they sail as F16.

Another Australian meeting will be held in late August via a Skype hook up, like the inaugral meeting.

Discussion topics, amongst others will be an update on the Australian, and state titles.

When we have a date we will let the members know.

For Singapore, everything goes through Alice Lim. If you don't speak to her, then nothing will happen. There are heaps and heaps of F16s here (round 17 Taipans and nearly 10 Vipers and a Blade). So hands down, the biggest F16 fleet. But only myself and ckuang are the ones active on this forum and don't think that will change.

As for holding an event in Singapore, certainly doable (or even go across the border into Malaysia). Certainly have a good fleet base to ensure good numbers. NE monsoon is the best winds and that runs from Dec to March. Outside of that the wind can be anything really.

Alice Lim can be contacted through this website, www.prosail-asia.com

If you count the 3 Spitfires, there is a good fleet in Dubai, about 6 (+ 3 Blades) all together I think, but check with Dave Holligan who is there.
