'Ride' impression on a lightweight F16

'Ride' impression on a lightweight F16 - 06/10/11 11:07 PM

With F16 class boats being so remarkably lightweight, is the ride bone jarring or is there much vibration felt in average to very choppy water?
I have years of traditional old school heavy cat sailing but the lightweight and narrow knife edge hull entry of the F16's moves me to ask the forum this question. Thanks for your reply.

Not that I've noticed but the steering is much faster.

My Stealth is quite light, tall bows which are not quite as fine as the current crop of 16s, and very flat bottoms from mid hull to the transoms. It does slam a bit in chop upwind, but not objectionable. It does drive well to windward, and speed moderates the harshness. This boat also has the foiled rudders which makes downwind blasting very secure, and the ride downwind is much smoother. There are significant difference in feel between the F16s and older, heavier boats, but most of those are overwhelmingly positive. It's very hard to go back to the older boats after experiencing the sensitivity of these craft.

Most of the jarring from chop will be from flat bottoms. My FXone was a tank, but had very flat bottoms and was really rough in the right conditions.
