Hoist heights genaker in other classes - 08/20/01 12:51 PM
As a reaction to B roberts claim that genaker hoisted above 40 % above the hounds will break the (alu ) masts I checked a few masts.

Nearly all come in at 60 % above Hounds and yesterday when I sailed my boat back to my club via 40 km upwind beat in heavy chop and 20 to 35 knots winds. I passed a club race where all the boats (F18's and F20's) pulled a genaker in 35 knots winds. All boats where okay so I guess that 60 % above hound is okay for alu masts.

Goodall adviced Hoist height 7550 mm will put the hoist height around 60 % on the Taipan 4,9 8,5 mtr. high mast depending on the height of the mastfoot.

Or around 45 % on a 9 mtr. height mast depending on mastfoot height.^

60 % on a 9 mtr mast come sout at around 8,0 mtr hoist height.

Just as extra info
