Stealth F16 - 08/18/06 08:53 PM

Hello,
I would like to know if the Stealth F16 they offer second hand in this advertisement is worth the prise they ask?
I think it's quite a lot for a used boat and where do you think I should start to offer?

I dependents largely on the state the boat is in.

A rule of thumb most cat dealors use is :

15 % of new price for 1 year old boat (or one that has been sailed at least ones)

then 10 % off for additional years/seasons.

I would consider this boat to be in its 3rd season so roughly it should be around 65 % of the new price. It can be more if it is well maintained and less if it is not well maintained. Like I said it is just a rule of thumb.

It's a new model Stealth with the 'old'ish style main. I'd guesstimate a price in the region of €10,250 as being fair.

Have a look on www.catamaran.co.uk in the for sale section, there are a small number of Stealths for sale including 2 05 boats.

There are some interesting boats there in the Stealth section.

The pricing seems very attractive even though they are British pounds = 1.45 Euro

I just got an e-mail from cat house holland, where the Stealth was for sale, that the boat is sold
So maybe I go for a new one than!
But first I have a lot of questions for you sailors out there! I will make new topics for them.
Thanks for your reactions on this one.

Tony,

That advert is for a Stealth F18HT not an F16

Actually that is not true ... - 08/20/06 06:25 PM

The picture is indeed of a F18HT but Emmie van Iersel owns a stealth F16. There has never been a Stealth F18HT in the netherlands. So it can only be an f16.

Is that price right for a secondhand F16 or F18? That 11,500 UK pounds converts to $28,545.87 Australian dollars? It seems an awful lot for either an F16 or an F18 second hand to me?
That would make the $17,000 Austarlian dollars (6,854 UK pounds or 10,034 Euros) for a NEW F14, all carbon fibre, seem quite "cheap"??
Or even if it's Euro's? the conversion is still fairly "heavy" ($19,487.16 Austarlian)

For that price (€11,500) you can have my 18 month old F18 (which is on the market) and it'll be here ready for you when you arrive.

I you look at the line underneath the photo you will see it says €11.500,- , and the € sign means euro.
convert that to AUD you get $19,477.62 Australian dollars

Re: Actually that is not true ... - 08/21/06 06:27 AM

Even so, it still seems to me to be a high price to pay second hand?

Re: Actually that is not true ... - 08/21/06 10:30 AM

11.500 British pounds for a second F16 (= 16.675 Euro's) would even make a fully tweaked race ready new Stealth/Blade F16 several thousant pounds cheaper, so obviously the pricing was not in British pounds.

I'm anxious to find out what an Australian build Blade F16 will cost new and whether it is close to the F14 in overal cost.

That ad was of last year when the boat was one year old, I don't think they ever adjusted the price to reflect that the boat gained a year in age.

Is that the Alpha Omega F14 and how much did it end up?
Posted By: Darryl_Barrett

Re: Actually that is not true ... - 08/22/06 12:54 AM

The Alpha Omega F14 is $17,000 Australian, all carbon, fully riged and tuned for racing straight out of the factory. That price includes a GST of 10% which is deducted for any boats exported (making it $15,454 Australian, or $11,766.42 US, or 9,149.09 EURO, or 6,223.93 British pounds - ex factory, at todays exchange rates).

Re: Actually that is not true ... - 08/22/06 02:53 PM

But when you import it into Europe you can slaps on some additional 21 % = 17 % VAT and about 4 % import duties. For some EU countries (like Netherlands) this is 23 % = 19 % VAT and 4 % import duties.

Of course the skipping need to be paid as well. Think 1500 Euro's for an individual boat/crate.

I know this from experience.

This means a F14 will be around 12.750 Euro's for me personally if I would go that route here in NL.

About same price as a standard Stealth F16 which comes with a jib setup for that price as well.

Now you know why the F16 class has been so focussed on getting local builders in the past. This is absolutely critical in growing the class internationally.
