Trapeze on a Wave??

Hi All,
Out of sheer laziness, I haven't experimented with this yet so I am putting it out to the Wave Forum (oddly) BEFORE I go kill myself or worse yet, damage one of our club boats. Has anyone added a trapeze set up to their Wave?
I have been toying with rigging up some rudimentary system out of old shrouds, bungy cords and my Kiteboarding harness - you can imagine the picture. Is the mast strong enough to hold this extra leverage? We get strong winds down here consistently so I think the concept is good and I imagine that being able to hike off the back of the boat on a trap would help with the lee hull diving.

Do waves have dolphin strikers? If not then don't do it.

No they don't. Given the nature of your question and advice i assume there'd be too much torque on the cross beams potentially twisting the boat?

The factory provides an optional trapeze kit for the Wave. We still have ours somewhere. It's not necessary or particularly useful except for training purposes and maybe for kids to use.

The Wave is pretty underpowered so I don't see why you would even need one.
We often sail in winds around 20 to 25 and hiking is all you really need to do.

Exactly! People want to try the trapeze and do so on all cats regardless of the "need" to trapeze.

I guess that is my motivation - understanding how to trapeze on a boat that I know I can handle given my experience. I haven't any time on a bigger boat nor access to one (that is dependable) nor crew to go with at the moment. Subsequently, my desire to play around with trapping on a wave is simply driven by pure curiousity and need to do something different.

If you are going to trapeze on a Wave, you will need to put on a tiller extension, of course. But once you have the tiller extension and the trapeze wires, the Wave is a perfect boat for practicing how to get in and out on the trapeze with a tiller extension in one hand and a mainsheet in another hand and the trapeze handle in your third hand. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
The key is to not need to use the trapeze handle.

Start out by having your trapeze line set a little high, so you won't be dragging in the water. And then, as you gain confidence with the going in and out thing, gradually lower your trapeze line so you ultimately would be trapezing straight out from the boat (assuming there is enough wind to keep you from dragging in the water and/or not big enough chop to keep knocking you off the side of the boat).

Once you have mastered this on your Wave, you will feel confident to trapeze from the helm position on higher-performance catamarans. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
