Have 3 Waves Available for the Tradewinds - 01/13/03 10:06 PM

We have three Waves available here in the Keys for the NAMSA NAs and Tradewinds Midwinter Open Cat Championships.
Waves will probably be the largest class again and the most fun.
Let me know by return email if interested

I am 50 years old. I love to sail but i hate to spend time setting up a boat. I want to sail not spend 30 or 45 minutes setting up a boat. I want to get to the water sail and then get off the water.
How easy is a hobie wave to set up? Is the mast as difficult to raise as a 14 or 16 hobie? Thanks Randy Brasuell

Hi, I am the brand new owner of a Wave. My previous Hobies were a 14 and a 16, so I am familiar with set up of both. The mast has a comptip and is similar to an H14, but even easier. Since I have young children that cannot help me set up a boat that was also a concern of mine.

Let me tell you, the Wave is easier to set up than my 13 ft mono hull. Even though the Wave is fairly easy to completely disassemble, I do not because I have a trailer. Once I get to the water, if I hurried I could be sailing away in about 15 min. I am sure. I have just taken my new Wave out once, but the first time I had a ~25 min. set up just to make sure all was correct.

I suggest you take a test ride on a Wave from a local dealer. My dealer charged me $45 to take out the Wave and the Getaway, then subed the rental from the price of the boat. After one test ride I was sold.

Hi Randy,
I am 66 and find the Wave the easiest and fastest boat to rig ever. You can stand the mast and put the forestay pin in by yourself. Then all you need to do is put up the sail and off you go.
And the class is very active with a Nationals and North American Championships yearly, with a series of regattas for the their National Series Championship.
All majors have awards for Open, Women, Youth and Masters (55 and over)

Does anyone have advice on batten tention for the calvert wave sail and/or thoughts on the worth of fiberglass rudders for the wave.

Firm tension on battens - 05/02/03 01:15 PM

I tighten the battens in pretty good to give the sail more power.
