Hello from WI,

Just wondering if the One Design Midwinters in Sarasota (Friday 16MAR - Sunday 18MAR) is on anyone else's radar? We are already registered (F18) and would enjoy the company of some additional competitors. Call it an excuse to do some homework for 2018 Worlds.

Just a note to let you know that I've merged the Distance Racing forum into the General Sailing Forum. This is part of an ongoing effort to make the forums easier to use.

In general, I believe that less separate forums increase user engagement unless there is a good reason for separation.

The regional and boat type forums make sense to me, so those will stay for now.

Seeing that I can't seem to source Holmenkol SealnGlide anymore, was thinking of trying Mclube for my new spin. I used Holmenkol before and seemed to work well.
Anyone have an opinion on which is better and a source for the Holmenkol?

02/07/18 07:20 AM RIP Mary Wells, 1942 - 2018 by Damon Linkous

I just found out today that Mary passed away January 28th. She had suffered from COPD for some time died after a week in the hospital with family by her side.

Here daughter Stacy wrote a very touching and detailed account of her final days and made it public on Facebook. Since the post is public, if you have a Facebook account you can leave comments for the family.

CRAM will be very interested to know about the Portsmouth or SCHRS debate. We have an ongoing discussion on if we should move away from Portsmouth.

We're flattered to hear you call Cat Fight a cant miss event. We hope it will grow.

Here are some unresolved debates.

Portsmouth or SCHRS.... What's the best solution for a region and their organizing authorities.?

What do you do about a yardstick boat that gets faster with design advances (F18s and decksweepers) when you don't have enough data to run the Portsmouth engine?

What rating would you use for a modern foiling A cat?

What do you do with huge legacy of F16 designs under various rules in portsmouth or SCHRS?

When should a one design class in a region decide to race with in the handicap fleet?

Is there any buzz about the non Olympic fleet getting into the foiling N17?

What teams are forming to challenge Bora for the US slot.

Whats the fair way to manage foiling boats in 2018?

The junior racing scene has stabalized on Nacra 15s. How could your region support/advise a wanna be junior sailor in this environment?

One design fleets come and go in a region.... What are the success stories... What is the predictable outcome.... What's it take to keep the fun factor a constant?

Any interest in starting a where are they now thread on past contributors to cat sailor?

CRAM and CRAW have decided to do another Catfight... What are the other Big Can't miss events this season?

I gotta million of em!!!

OK, I'll bite.

Miami OCR this week. Two US boats in the medal round which has been delayed to start tomorrow (Sat, Jan 26th). Whachall think of that? So how has the move to full foiling changed the game? if at all?

Timbo, giving you a separate thread by Damon was not succesfull. So here is new shot.

I am pondering about the same question already some time. The atmosfere, the mood in this forum hase changed since Rick died.

What I personally really miss is the fun that everybody used to have with their writings. There were sometimes master pieces, eloquent, sharp, entertaining.

I remember me for instance a long lasting fight between (I think) Team Catfever and Todd . Especially the first one was able to express his hate in pure literature.
Yes it was harsh, but it all built a bar-like atmosphere where sailors could relax and talk about their beloved sport.
Members were coming home after work and first started up the forum to see if there was something interesting.

And yes I know that I'm going with this against Damon's wishes. But there was always a difference between the Beachcats forum and this forum.

Registration is Open! $200 Discount for Early Registration by February 28th!

Youth Team Discounts Again This Year. Last years the three youth teams kicked absolute butt on their borrowed Nacra 20's, a bunch great young sailors who had never raced cats schooled some of the old-timers.

This year's race has a modified course due to hurricane damage in the Florida Keys.

Instead of starting in Islamorada Florida in the Keys we will be starting at Palm Beach Shores, FL and finishing at Fernandina Beach, FL instead of Daytona Beach, FL.

This course will have the advantage of moving a little North and avoiding Miami traffic, so will make it a little easier on the ground crew (and reporters).

Also, starting from Palm Beach Shores means we can have a true beach start on the first day for the first time, meaning that it will be a lot easier to attract spectators and publicity for the event and sponsors.

You know you've wanted to do a 300 mile, five day race right!
