11/20/17 01:56 PM Fatality During Clipper Race by Redtwin
I haven't been following this race but saw this in the news. It appears he was wearing a harness but fell overboard and the crew were unable to pull him aboard before he drowned.

11/19/17 11:15 AM New Mystere 4.3 in Central Florida by Rasemans
Hi everyone, I am refitting a Mystere 4.3. I have owned multiple cats, including my current race rigged Wave. I was reaching out to the group to see if anyone had experience with this boat. Seems pretty straightforward, but thought I'd ask anyway.

11/07/17 04:12 AM TomTom Bandit V's GoPro Hero4 cameras by JeffS
I have run video cameras on the boat for a fair while and have just got a TomTom Bandit going and must say I'm really happy with it, it is smaller than my GoPro, doesn't fog up, has better video quality as you can see in the below videos. The shots with GPS and speed overlays are from the TomTom whereas the GoPro is the forward facing camera. With the TomTom I download the card into the TomTom program on the computer, edit the video and add the available overlays which are a choice's of GPS track, speed and "G" force. I've even worked out how to take my finished TomTom video into my Adobe photoshop program I was using and splice in shots from the GoPro, plus music. These videos below are practice ones so don't get too hung up on choice of music etc
The first two videos are the same race. the TomTom video is processed through the TomTom program then through Adobe Photoshop to add the music, The GoPro was edited once through the Adobe Photoshop. The third video is with the TomTom edited in the TomTom program then added to the GoPro video in photoshop after I had finished editing the GoPro, I then spliced them together and added the music

11/06/17 09:26 PM Goolwa to Meningie Race 2017 by JeffS
Only 11 days until the start of the epic Goolwa to Meningie race from the end of the Murray river across the lower lakes of the Murray system in South Australia. Racing starts in Goolwa, from 8am for monohulls with cats starting at 11am, we race up the Goolwa channel, across the top of Lake Alexandrina, through the creek called the Narrows to Lake Albert and across lake Albert to finish at Meningie. This is the most adventurous off the beach race in Australia, at about 70km long its also the longest. The lower lakes throw up some serious chop to test your stamina and plenty of wind once the sea breeze settles in, for that reason would be single handed skippers must be experienced and wear helmets, all competitors must wear a high vis top, a torch and whistle as these lakes are up to 20km wide and would take some searching. For people thinking of doing this race for the first time, there are some definite things to avoid, I'm happy to point out the strategy to stay out of trouble and where not to get too close to shore. This part of the river and the lower lakes are about as full of water as they ever get and the carp numbers for some reason are also very low. So if your an experienced, adventurous sailor, looking for a full on race, that doesn't need to have a rescue boat within sight at all times come and have a crack at this fantastic race. Here's a video from a few years ago, the race doesn't always start with wind like this but every race I've done has ended with wind like this

10/05/17 02:28 PM WildCat Regatta Nov 4 - 5, Lake Eustis, FL by David Ingram
Hello All,

It’s almost time for the WildCat Regatta hosted by the Lake Eustis Sailing Club. We have moved the regatta to the first weekend in November to get a break from the heat and hopefully a little more breeze.

If you plan to attend please preregister, it’s time to start writing checks and we need to know what kind of numbers we are looking at. Currently we only have a few boats preregistered if we can’t get our numbers into the double digits we may have to make some difficult decisions.

Below are links to regatta information and the preregistration page. If you have any questions please feel free to reply to this email.

09/26/17 06:09 PM Hobie 21se (non-conducting) comp tip by Bille
The comp-tip on my Hobie-21se is getting over aged from the Las Vegas
sun , and i need to do something about it now.

I can make a accurate mold of it , and build a fiberglass or Kevlar one
using epoxy ; but will the fiberglass conduct electricity, or should i stick
to using just the Kevlar and paint it white ,( kevlar does Not like sun-shine) ?

I wouldn't know how to make another plastic one ; and can't afford a
new one.
