I'm just trying to catch up on some catsailor issues, and I was reading the recent article about the Tradewinds Regatta. I saw where Rick made some comments about the trim on a particular boat going around a weather mark...I want more of that. Tear it up Rick! How about a "Catsailor Photo Critic" or "Rick's Unsolicited Coaching" column? If you see me doing something wrong, publicly humiliate me for it! (I'm being serious). One things' for sure, I'll never do it again!

That's a great question, Jake, and thank you for asking it.

Tangentially, I would also like to ask how many people who frequent this forum know (or don't know) that there IS a print magazine, "Catamaran Sailor," which is now in its 13th year of publication.

I do and I subscribe to it - I figured it was the least I could do in return for the awesome information to be found here; and I encourage everybody else who has not done so already to do the same...

Jake, excellent idea. I thought the same thing when I saw that in Catsailor. A whole page or one photo a month would be cool. After purchasing Rick's instructional series I quickly learned he can put a lot of critique in to very few, very understandable words. My favorite page in every issue is Rick's racing tactic tips.

Sounds like a monthly column where someone who gives Rick a high-quality photo of a sailboat on the course (upwind, or down) and he (or other experts - champions, designers, etc.) could pose their critique of the various aspects (hull trim, weight placement, sail trim, etc.)

Maybe have a tech tip column as well, outlining the latest tweeks that the champs are using (should they choose to disclose it)

And a column for the Franken-boaters on what to consider when adding a spin to a particular non-spin boat, hooters to Waves, switching rudder systems, adding wings, etc.

I'm sure there would be a lot of contributing writers out there on the above topics.

Although, I must admit I haven't seen an issue of catsailor in a while. Must get that straightened out today....

Jake, do you work for the circulation department at Catsailor? That was a smooth pitch there....

Since it has been a while since I've glanced at one (still neck deep in "The Idiots guide to parenting", and my personal favorite "Do Diapers Give you Leprosy?"), do they still have the monthly tactical situation and answer?

After getting some pics of our Fleet in the recent issue, I proudly took the issue to our invasion of Annapolis night, and found a bunch of people asking "what's that". I will try to spread the gospel a little better to the locals...

By the way - I remember from days gone by that you all have said that if there is an event coming up and we'd like a stack to distribute at the event we just need to ask. Still true? I can think of a couple of good applications of that...

Hopefully I'm also fully paid up on my subscription...

Talk to Mary.., I have been attempting to do that for over a year. We are a small staff and do our best, however, but way overworked.
Meanwhile, just look at your mailing label. In parenthesis after you name are two numbers, i.e., (0406) That means your subscription expired in April (the 04 part) in 2006 (the 06 part)
Most folks, upon discovering they are very late, send in the money for all the back issues and add enough for another year or two, so that way they don't have to worry about it for a long while.
thanks,
Rick

In this electronic age just put a reminder note on your calendar as to when you need to send in your subscription. I can honestly say I've never been late with my renewal because I don't want to miss what is going on. (even if I belong to the dead boat society)
Don't forget to send in pictures & stories to Rick & Mary, it makes for a better Mag.

Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won't expect it back.

Awesome!!!! Great !!!! Good for you!!!!
It is amazing, but almost everything sent to us IS PUBLISHED! Keep those cards and letters coming!
I really believe the folks from all around the country (world) like to know what is happening in other parts. I know I do.

Rick:

You are doing a GREAT job, both with site and magazine. I will be headed your way Friday. I will go back and get the boats later. Going to keep them at Gulfport Sailing Center. Will see if I can get enough for a seminar when I get there.

Again, keep up the good work,
