Need recommendations on insurance. Anybody know the going rate for an F18 or Hobie 16? Needed for regattas.

Thanks,
Jim

Progressive. $227 year with 100/300 liability. By far the easiest company to deal with. There was an exhaustive thread a few months back. The gist was that most insurance companies don't have a clue about sailboats and racing.

I won't be up to GYC this weekend. See you at JPOR?

I have my I-20 insured through the US Sailing One Design program. A month ago, a bunch of parts were stolen off my boat totalling nearly $3000. Some basic paperwork, a couple of photos and I had a check in hand within two weeks of filing my claim. Not bad in my opinion.

US SAILING One Design Insurance - thanks to Dave Ingram, the F18 is eligible. Good record of quick claim settlement, and nobody understands racing coverage better. Several options to cover you for charters, as well.

I used to have State Farm up until last week. I have the same US One Design Coverage since it handled Chartering as well.

Check the policy on your homeowners insurance - the boat may already be covered. If not, you could probably get the lowest rate from the same company with a discount for having homeowners with them. My boat costs me about a hundred a year in premiums.

Yes, I have my homeowners through SF, and had my boat through them for dirt cheap. Even covered racing. However, I needed the charter coverage.

That's usually a very limited coverage (the homeowner policy coverage extension). Boats under 16 feet only, they can't be registered, and the coverage territory is very small. I don't think they cover racing, either.

Still, it may be better than nothing...
