Hope I'm not over stepping my bounds, but you gotta go here: http://www.teamseacats.com/ and read about ". . . briney death" under the heading potpourri of the sea .

its the truth. Last year kate brought a box of huge gallon-sized freezer ziplock bags and took my spent clothes and put them in there. Then in Ormond the girls went to a laundromat and washed it all since they couldn't stand it anymore.

Didn't bother me so much. Once you're on the water all you can smell is the magnificent scent of the sea breeze. Oh how it warms the **** of my heart.

It should also be good to know that the reason you're not winning everything ISN'T because of the boat! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

yes

thats been pointed out multiple times.

I'm fully aware that I'm a hack, a nothing, a zilch, a zero, a talentless butt, a wannabe, a waste of biomass.

All I want is for my hulls to come back ok. I think my soon-to-be-marriage would be in jeopardy if the boat doesn't come back. She loves her boat as much I as do.

Well, I've been called a "waste of a pair of pants", too. Guess I could crew for you then. Team "Waste of Carbon"

In the photo of the two guys kitted out, what are the little balls tied to the harness bars for?

they are put through lines wrapped that are wrapped around the chicken line. They put the ball into the line and that acts to keep them stable out on the wire and not washed off the boat.
The chicken line runs from the transom to the bow tang then under the tramp attached to a bungee. The lines are attached to the chicken line by a prusik knot that tightens under pressure but can be slid around when it is loose. I did it this way for a race last year on my 6.0 and it saved me and Robi's butt. I am not sure what the intellectual lineage of that set up is but I got the info from Jake.

Jake would tell you that;

"Those are anti-bingbongs adapted to an anti-whoopsie application."

He is an engineer, afterall. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Maybe this should go in the "Why?" thread, but I just watched a bunch of the videos from the start. Wow. I ain't man enough. I'm not going to say they're crazy or anything along that nature. If I wanted to go sailing that day, and I pulled up to a beach that looked like that I would go "nope". Get back in the truck and go home. That is some seriously fubar-ed surf. Beyond my skills.

I'm boatless.

So they're just attachments for connecting to the chicken line, that aren't hooks. ok, cool.

yeah you run the ball into the hoop then the chicken line pulls out the slack. If the boat does go over, its easy to get out of, and easy to get out of if there's pressure on it unlike a hook arrangement.

Hooks are bad on boats where bodies are likely to be flung around. Climbing-style Carabiners (sp?) are easier to use but they will slap the hull potentially leaving damage. The system that we use takes a little getting used to, but once you are used to it, getting clicked in is pretty easy. The bozo-ball anti-whoopsie arrangement is a David Lennard creation.
