Hey guys!

I have a 84 Hobie16 Olympic Edition that I have owned since she was new. All the scrapes and scratches are my own doing. Laughing. I must be a traditionalist, because I really like that it still looks OEM after all these years.

I am embarking on a complete restoration of the hulls and am looking to match them back to the original color. Anyone know what the name of the original Hobie blue was? Does anyone know the pantone or other color match for this color blue?

Also, with 23 year old sails, I would LOVE to have a set made like my originals in Dacron with the colors as close to matching as possible. The trick is the white-red-white panels in the sails. Any tips or vendors that might be able to help make (dye) sail cloth to match this unique panel?

Finally, what has to be changed out if I want to by new front and real crossbars with integrated tracks? Do I need new corner castings as well?

Thanks! Have a great week!

The front and rear crossbars are an assembly with the corner castings included.

I believe Hobie called it "Regatta Blue".
Probably will be no help with the match. You will have to mix it and test.

That looks like my cat. How do you know that it was an Olympic Edition?

That was called "Summer Games"

Its all about the color not that it was used in the Olympics of something.

There is a nice sail color chart that Matt Bounds made... for the Hobie Hotline last year. That shows the years that certain colors where introduced:

Pages 19-22

The summer Games color was just one year... for the '84 summer games in LA.

Speaking of that sail colour chart. In talking to my dealer this weekend he was commenting that if you could make a poster of that chart it would be a great seller.

During the last Olympics I went into a restaurant and ordered the Olympic special. It was Chile and Greece.

Yeah, I know - I've been working on it. Dan Mangus at Hobie even said that they would print it. That's a winter project though. Too much sailing going on now.

I've got exactly two free weekends bewteen now and the beginning of October - and I've got two Hotline issues to produce between now and then.

I know, whine, whine whine <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Well, whenever you get around to printing it you can do so knowing that you've already sold five of em'. I'll take five, I feel sure some of my dad's old hobie sailing buddies would love them. Some of them still sail, some have hung it up. But I think it would be a good reminder to the good days they're not still living. Rest assured, one of them is mine.

Never said it was an olympic racing boat... it was the edition like the 1976 edition 16 that was specially "colored" by Hobie. Sorry for the confusion, MMiller.
