After repairing the leak in the dagger trunk, I'm now ready to replace the worn "spacer". I'll call it a spacer because it isn't carpet and I can't identify the material. BTW, the carpet at the top of the trunk is still good and holds the boards in any postition nicely.

This spacer started two inches from the back, wrapping to the rear and forward two inches. It appears to be a sticky back close cell foam tape with a slick outer surface. It was not strong enough to withstand the rearward pressure of the board or the friction of raising and lowering the board, which wore through it completely. We then hit something causing the leak.

My question is actually two fold. I think a cushion of sorts is good idea for the rear of the trunk, carpet (or?) that can be replaced periodically. Anyone using something of a more permanent nature to shim up the sides of the boards? Was suggested to use furniture glides?

The item is shown in the Hobie catalog as #40309001 Daggerboard well neoprene kit (in stock). Comes with some super glue to stick it in.

This was used to help limit chipping of the board's trailing edge more than anything else, so I would stick with something with cushion.

On my Nacra 6.0 I used dinghy centreboard tape. It was black and was very slick with a self adhesive on the one side.

A "dinghy centerboard tape" search led me to all kinds of links including a discussion on gelcoating a piece of 3mm dyneema to the rear of the trunk. Don't plan on standing the 20 on her sterns anytime soon! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Looks like "Jap" (Japanese Glide) tape will do the trick as well.

Maybe I was waaaay overthinking this but isn't there a possibility of the board "hunting" from side to side in light winds?

Yes, the kit is the short white rubber strip. I think enough for both trunks.

6" of material included, so two 3" strips.

I use 20mm Velcro self adhesive tape, the wooly side not the hooks.
Be careful though because when the load/rearward pressure is put on the case, as opposed to the hull, it can split the case.
